Act Clutch + P0300
Act Clutch + P0300
hello everyone. i rarely post on this forum, i mainly just read and absorb as much knowledge as possible from all of you, which has been really helpful. here is my first thread, i hope you guys can help.
my car is a white 04 gsr. ive never had a p0300 code ever, for the life of my vehicle which is now about 28000 miles. i recently upgraded my clutch to an ACT heavy duty extreme clutch from my stocker. right when i left as i was cruising on the freeway between 75-80 mph my car lost power suddenly, CEL turned on and the car sounded weird, like the engine sound and the exhaust got deeper. its hard to explain really. so i pull out my trusty logger and sure enough, its the dreaded p0300 code. so i clear it and go about my business. 15 minutes later it happens again...same code. it seems to happen in increments of 15 minutes but ONLY when im driving in top gear between 70 and 80 mph. i drove around on the streets for about 30 minutes from 1st to 4th gears and nothing happened...no code. so i know its only top gear between those speeds.
NOW...my question is: can a p0300 misfire code be related to anything regarding a clutch install and the components that needed to be taken out in order to complete a full clutch install?? to my knowledge, the misfire code is caused by things like spark plugs and ignition-related parts in the car. the things that were removed in the car were my cold intercooler piping, battery, intake and bov assembly, and the tranny components obviously.
any help would be greatly appreciated as i know there are many people on this site with a wealth of knowledge that can be shared. thank you in advance

the only thing I think could have happened was when the battery was pulled it reset everything and when you went for the ride it popped up again with side affects. If I remember right a few days ago someone posted that the dealers have a reflash TSB for that code, you may want to give a local dealership a call. If a cylinder is misfiring your prolly only running on 3 which could explain your issues. Just my .02. Good luck
i had this problem with my act and also my friend with his tilton clutch. Once i reset my code it went away for good. My friend with his tiliton has gotten the code 2 times so far.
I started getting it after exedy twin hd install. I had other work done at the same time, so I can't prove it's from the clutch. I read somewhere that a harmonic disturbance from the twin disks can cause the code.
That beeing said, I have never noticed any change in performance or engine disturbance other than the cel.

I had the code come up about 2 times after putting injectors in over about a month or so. Then after my exedy hd was put in it is just always on. The car still feels great and the same I figure its just form all the clutch noise.

I get the code everytime now that I have a Tilton twin plate clutch. The noise is what causes the code to pop up. Everytime I am on the highway and let off the gas the code will pop up. Once I clear the code, the next time I am on the highway it pops up. The clutch is sooo noisy...nothing I can do about it.
It is most likely happening because of gear lash in the transmisison. Using a non-OEM clutch changes the harmonics/vibrations that make it to the engine. The change in vibration/harmonics cause the tranmission noise to increase, setting off the code. It probably happens most offer during decelearation because of the load taken off the transmission gears, creating the "lash" noises. Even with the stock clutch, you can hear some gear lash during deceleration.
