P0301 and P0300 Misfire Codes MR 6 Speed Specific Mitsu TSB!

Hey guys I have 4,917 Miles on my Evo 9 MR now after almost 2 years. Recently I have been having problems with my 5th gear not wanting to go in and grinding on and off. Also whenever I engaged my clutch the engine rattled a lot, but after driving my friends evo his did the same thing and I thought nothing of it. I recently installed the Cobb Accessport on my car and flashed the Stage 2 93 octane map with a TurboXS TBE and Megan 02 housing. I was loving the car even more until about 500 miles ago BAM the dreaded P0301 CYL 1 Misfire. The light would come on about every 150 miles or so and always when im sitting at a light in traffic or just moving through 1st and 2nd gears and low RPM's. I used to just reset the ECU until today I got a P0300 Random/Multiple Misfire code sitting at a light.

So I decided to Call Cobb for some help. I spoke to Parker for technical assistance and he gave me some vital information. He said Cobb's tech found out that Mitsubishi has released a Technical Service Bulletin for the 6 speed Lancer Evolution's having the P0301 and P0300 codes. Apparently Mitsubishi has mis-alignment problems with the 6 speed and when the car is started up the crank position sensor would read the flywheel wrong and trigger a misfire code. So Finally there is a reason for these random misfire codes that some people have been getting.

Thank You soo much Cobb Tuning!!!

Does your car seem to idle rough when stopped at all. Like you can hear it through the exhaust miss every now and then?

as far as the misfire codes I had that before and it was as simple as a new set of spark plugs. Also one time the car would idle rough with the rpm jumping from 700-1,400 after I cleaned the intake filter, blamo problem gone. hope it helps

well, the first problem with that is, the crank position sensor is on the opposite side of the motor from the flywheel. the crank position sensor definately doesn't use the flywheel for any type of alignment, so thats out of the question.

the crank position sensor uses a tooth wheel behind the timing belt. the sensor itself is nothing more then a hall effect sensor, and has a slot for the tooth wheel to spin in. if this were misaligned, it would break the sensor and cut up your timing belt.

Is there anyway to view the full TSB? So we can see what it tells the dealer to do/replace?
