yea i've been driving my evo with the whine for months now. im just waiting for the xfer case to blow. the car drives...ish. i never use boost anymore. it doesn't seem to send power to the wheels evenly, whenever i get on the gas the car wants to veer right. i have to hold the wheel at an angle to keep it straight. some dude on here said there is a rebuild for $400, but after PMing him, he did not reply.

a possible guess is that put the wrong fluid in there. i've heard that they should use the fluid that's like $80, not $15.

but generally 03-04 xfer cases crap out more than 05+. at least in offroad world, when you put a lsd in the diffs...it made them stronger. so that is a possible explaination of why the non lsd 03-04's had more problems.

Changing your TC fluid won't do anything. If yor TC is constintly whining it's shot.

I have about 34K and I have not change my fluids yet. Let me know if that helps out the noise.

I seem to notice that the whine comes when I barely hit the gas.... when I hit boost the noise goes away...
You hit it irght at the spot I have the same problem if I boost it goes away.

The rebuild might be offered by Jon at TRE...Team Rip Engineering...it might also be $100 for shipping too, but it's worth it, I hear they do amazing things...

so powertrain includes transmission and tcase?
I just called and got an appointment. My only mod literally is a boost gauge, so I should almost get no hassle from the dealer. whoohoo!

^^ it only comes in the big can. It's the cheapest place you can buy if you don't have "connections" it's good stuff...

In fact, if I can get my T-case fixed under warrently, I'll let them use my Diaqueen just to make sure they use it correctly. But, since they're fixing the t-case, I should just buy a new clutch and get that installed, and get a new 5th gear syncro. I'm not grinding, but it's nice to have a new syncro just in case.
