What is needed to rev IX past 8k rpm?

So What's needed to rev past 8k? My goal is to have a 9.5k redline so what do I need to do this? I realize that power starts dropping off at 7k but I don't care plus I'll be going with a bigger turbo suited for top end use. I'm thinking a set of 272 cams and some head studs but what else do I need?

1mm ported head work a dual spring setup.

build motor with ross pistons and oliver rods or pauter rods which are rated well over 1000hp+

And a crap load of suporting mods.

You dont have to spend 3400 on a cosworth you have a good core just get it ported by a good shop. A well done ported head may flow more air or (=) to a cosworth.

Oh yea and you would have to stick with a 2.0L cuz you cant rev higher then 8500 safely on a 2.1L or higher.

Why? Just to say that you can rev to 9500. There are people on here with stock bottom ends making 550whp with GT35Rs and injection shifting at 8500, only a few, but it can be done.

It doesnt sound like your gonna be going to a 37R or 42R and a built motor, with a statement of I have a goal of 9500 redline.

Maybe you have some reason that im not seeing to go to 9500

maybe his goal is not 550whp? You could always take a gt35r and run it at 22-23psi on pump gas all the way up to 9500+. This will allow for a huge powerband which IMO will make the car tons of fun.

Or you could find one of thoes 2.4L blocks and destroke it to a 2.1. Then you would be able to rev to 10k+ no problem. With a ported head and supporting mods of course.

This thread is pretty retarded. Spaceball made a good comment.

Why are you trying to rev to 9500? The only reason I could think of would be for drag racing, high mph with a very very large turbo. You dont need to go that high even with a GT35R, but I mean.. you can if you want!

What you NEED to be able to hit 9500 is a built valvetrain (springs, retainters, etc), also a built bottom end (must be 2.0L to be safe as someone mentioned). At that RPM is would be best to have oversized valves to move extra air along wtih some cams that can really take advantage of it, like the JUNs.

Well see my sti was boring to me, I hated the 7k redline on that thing. Just when the 20g was hitting it's sweet spot I would have to shift cause I ran out of revs. Now that I have an evo I would like to take advantage of the very capable 4g63 motor and rev higher. Maybe I got ahead of myself by saying I wanted a 9.5k redline.......I guess now that I think about it 8.5k redline is what I really want. Remember just cause I want redline at 8.5k doesn't mean I'll spin it that far but I still want to be able to rev up to 8k often(almost daily). I want to go with a 50 trim turbo with a pretty large turbine housing......I doubt that this turbo will run out of breath past 7k.

So in short I'm looking for 400-450 whp on pump gas with a 8k+ redline.....this is what suits me

8500 on a 35R ok but not all that.

9500 on a 35R people better make way thats putting you low 10's on a well built car.

That makes more sense. If you looking at a 50 trim, 8-8.5k is all you need to go really. The stock head can take 8000 without any issues really and there are a couple guys going to 8500 on stock heads too, namely EVODave and Sean Ivey, however just to be safe, Id do the springs/retainers since its not really an arm/leg to do it for the added insurance.
