Boost problem....need help

Ok...at WOT it sounds like the turbo is studdering...however, it feels as if it's not losing any power. The boost gauge needle stays at 22-23 pounds and jumps back and forth. So here's what i am running. AEM SRI, HKS SSQV vta, Megan manifold and TBE. It's tuned with the apexi AVC-R and SAFC, 650 injectors and a walbro 255. Any ideas of what could be happening?

That's a pretty ugly combo of mods, first of all, but it could be you need a fresh set of plugs.

There's no way to diagnose you with the limited info you gave us. You just said "WOT," but didn't say which gear or what rpm - those are of critical importance.

First and Second gear there is nothing, third gear at 3000 RPM, when the turbo starts to spool up, it starts to studder all the way thru the power band and it does this in 4th gear as well( 3000 and up) . The car has 16K miles on it. the car idles smoothly but occasionially it will get choppy and go back to normal. i looked at the plugs the other day, they're a little black(running rich). Anything else u need to know?

Bump for the thread. I'm experiencing the same problem.
When my car hits full boosts it starts to studder and I can hear this chi chi chi sound (sounds like my GFB bov is blowing off early), different from the regular fluttering sound.
Do I need new plugs or something? Everything was working fine until recently!

I have around 11000miles with HKS RS intake, TBE, 255 fuel pump, boost control, GFB bov and AMS custom flash.

Sounds like your BOV is doing what it's supposed to ... but not well. Is this VTA or back to intake? Too soft of a spring, perhaps ...

I'd check for boost leaks, BOV adjustment, fueling issues, ignition timing, plugs

are you running good gas?

Both of you have BOVs that vent to atmosphere either 100% or partially. I would try to switch back to a fully recirculating BOV first to see if the symptoms subside.

If there is no access to a stock BOV or fully-recirculating BOV, then move on to trying a fresh set of NGK BPR7ES gapped to .026.

If that changes nothing, do a pressure test using this method: http://vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

After all that, report back.

I cant even count the number of threads that I have seen people have problems after they put a intake and/or vta BOV on their car. I have not a clue why people go and spend 400 bucks(guestimation) on parts that make their car run like crap. Then wonder why it runs like crap.

Why dont you fellas take a look at me and warrtalons signatures and that way you can get on the right path. Take those stupid mods off and get rid of them. period

4cefed, I think I answered yours in great detail. Did you do all the troubleshooting tips I suggested?

my gfb bov is set to full recirculation and the car felt like it was sputtering making this pa pa pa noise, not the regular fluttering or surging noise. ( I know how fluttering and surging sound like becasue I had it before and got rid of it through playing with the spring rate on my gfb bov).
I checked all the hoses and don't think that I have any boost leak. My lower intercooler pipe popped off 2 months ago, so I made sure all the hoses are extra tight.

After searching through tons of threads, it looks to me that it's probably the plugs, but I'm just guessing

You can't look at your hoses and think you don't have a leak - that's ridiculous. YOu have to do an actual pressure test, man. You're not superman with x-ray vision. There's no way to know if you have a leak from visual inspection.

These steps are so easy to follow: switch on a stock BOV or JDM MR DV, do a boost leak test, and try NGK BPR7ES gapped to .026. No more posts should be made until all 3 of these steps have been done.

Hi Warrtalon, I have done everything that you have mentioned above and my car still does that thing. It's surging when I go WOT, what should I do? Is my turbo damaged? or the setting on my greddy profec B II is screwed up? I really need some help
