I'm about to do the 60k mile service on the Evo (03), at 52k miles. Couple questions for those that have been in the DSM/4G63 camp for awhile.

Ok, I'm bought into the fact that the timing belt tensioner should be replaced with the timing belt. But do I really need to replace the balance shaft tensioner and all the idler pullies on both belts? Are the kevlar belts worth it?

I'll replace radiator/heater hoses as recommended, but shouldn't all coolant hoses be replaced (throttle body, turbo, other)?

Replace the ignition cables at 60k? Never heard of that, but the service manual says so. Comments?

I'll have the head off the car (not part of the 60k service), but I haven't seen any good discussions on which head gasket to go back with. Just a bunch of newb'ish recommendations from people that haven't even seen the stock gasket. Vendor/engine builder or just those in the know, feedback would be appreaciated here.

Anything else I should do since half the car will be apart? A new turbo kit will be going on at the same time, and the clutch was replaced less than 10k miles ago. Anything else I'm missing?

You should replace the hydraulic tensioner as a good safety measure. I have re-used the stock tensioner pulleys before and have had no problems so i would say this one is up to you personally. Kevlar belts really are not needed as the stock belts get the job done but would they hurt?

I say leave the coolant hoses alone but inspect them to make sure they are in good condition with no cracks etc.

I would also leave the stock plug wires in place unless you are having ignition issues.

The Mitsu MLS head gasket works just fine so i would use that unless you want to go with a more expensive thicker one to lower compression a little. I personally went with the HKS but you can't go wrong with the Mitsu one either. I would go ahead and throw some ARP head studs in there while you have the head off if you have not already done so.

Good luck.

Yup, already have the head studs. Thanks for the feedback, especially on the head gasket. Too many people sell short the factory head gasket, it is a good one.
