Any danger in buying used cams

Looking at possibly buying used GSC cams. Do they wear out or should I look for anything when purchasing. They have 8k miles on them.

just make sure that they are the V2 cams with the polished lobes and you should be good to go.

Two minutes of seaching revealed this.

I bought used GSC 272/272 off of EvoM and I had them inspected by my machine shop. Everything checked out and I had them installed. I am enjoying a lumpy idle and all is well.

Try to give the guy a deposit and have them inspected if he's local but otherwise it's a crapshoot. All in all, you should be fine buying used cams

I would ask if there are any scratches, nicks, damage on the lobes or journals that can be caught/felt with a fingernail. If not, and they do have 8k miles, they're good to go.

the lobes of the cam should be shiny. if they are turning grey, or have any surface irregularities, then they may be wearing down.
