Just got my 6-puck installed

So my ACT street disc was beginning to slip for a while and i went back and fourth with my issue between spending around 600 for an act xtreme pressure plate with a 6 puck or spending thousands on a carbon double or tripple disc clutch.

Finally after listening to the guys at turbotrix i went with the 6 puck and i couldn't be happier. It is a little tight on engagement (as expected) but i was used to it in a day and i can't tell you how great it shifts up top. During "Spirited driving", changing gears is effortless and lockout is non-existant.

I could not be happier with this clutch. Any one considering a 6-puck but are afraid of the drivability shouldn't worry cause it's not nearly as bad as you think.......

Rez90 thats awsome!! I also considered one as well, cost wise its night and day but when launching with it can't it be super harsh on stock drivetrain parts compared to a multiplate clutch? I would think a twin or triple disc is a little easier to slip or would take a little more shock away from the transfer case than an unsprung 6 puck, but i'm not sure?????

Excuse my ignorance on this subject but what brand of 6 puck, cost, and is it compatible with stock flywheel?

Yeah I ran one for about 5k- and I liked better than my triple exedy (DD driven to work ect). Was not near as noisy as the triple disk (made tons of noise compared to the ACT 6 puck). I should have left it on and never changed it for the triple. Mine was an usprung 6 puck, now they make them sprung hub. The unsprung will make more stress on the TC with heavy launches. My 6 puck engaged like stock except for the inital grab. Shifts were smooth and no lock outs.

Enjoy the clutch!!! I liked mine!!

My guess is sprung hub as they came out with them shortly after I bought mine. As for cost roughly 600 is my guess.. Mine was 475 or so.
I believe they do work with the stock flywheel, mine did.

here Slow boy racing has them:562.00

I started using the 6 puck sprung hub a few months ago. However, I already need to replace it. I'm in the process of having a 2.4 installed and the shop recommended installing a new one.

Good info. Subscribing because I'll never pay $2900 for a clutch again.

The disc is an unsprung 6-puck. And i love it. Sure if it's dropped it will put a lot of stress on the TC and tranny but as long as you pay attention, it can be slipped........

i considered the sprung 6-puck but after physically seeing one compared to an unsprung, i went with the unsprung because there was a huge weight difference between the two discs.

i had a bad experience with it though.
6 pucks are hard...the clutch pedal gets ridiculously hard.
that's why i like the twin discs....stock pedal feel

I've been though 2 6-puck, unsprung discs and they really dont wear out, they explode.

As I have told you before, by using the EVO 8 clutch in your 7, the geometry is totally different (wrong) and the pedal effort is going to be unnecessarily stiff. Don't blame that on the puck disc.

How does an unsprung disc "explode"? I have seen two failures in my 11 years of business (very rare) that may be construed as "exploded". In both cases, the clutch was over-heated to the point of melting the spring steel drive plate that the pucks are attached to. Is that what you are talking about?
