How bad is a clutch install?

Ive done everything to my cars so far and i have always done everything to my cars, from the turbo kit on my rsx-s and the cams on my evo. to the other little things...i started to do the stuff for the clutch but it seems like a real pain in the a$$ to get all that stuff out of there. Then get all the mounts back lined up and i just want that little push, to get me motivated to do it. Id also like to hear any experience and what you think i should look out for and just any advice you got.

thanks alot bill

If you don't have a lift to work on...I suggest to pay a shop to do it. It's really PITA especially 05 evo.

If you have lift go for it

its not a bad job for a mechanic. But i have done clutches on dump trucks and its worse that that. Just put aside a weekend, and make sure you have a few big friends to help lift and all needed tool and give it a shot. Well question have you done a clutch on anything before? im me at damianhindley if ya need any advise or help, i have done about 60-70 clutch jobs only like 6 on evos but hey its just a car. Id be glad to help you out. its not as hard as you think.

Clutch install..... i personally would suggest doing it yourself.... I was so afraid of what everyone here told me then i did mine and a friends 2 weekends apart without any major issue's. I was even able to bleed the ACD no problem without a mutt tool.... Basically if u have done clutches in other cars you will be fine! I had not even done a clutch in any FWD car before this install and came thru smelling like a rose

It is not that bad but if you have a doubt about yourself being able to do it, it may be better to pay a reputable shop to do it for you. Good luck.

i cant disagree with a reputable shop! I had my first done by a mitsubishi dealer that T Totally ****ed up my car then mitsubishi in no way would back me. In the end and 6 months later after they had done the clutch i finally got my car back... with new holes and a broken steering column messed up starter... broken T-case and front diff... ahh the pleasures of a mitsu dealer...

it's a catch 22.... you can't trust anyone else to do it right, but it's a real pain in the a$$ of a job. You'll need a way to get the driver side 1/2 shaft out (saw'd off dent puller with proper size screw attached to the end), muscle enough to twist/turn/lift/massage the tranny out and back in, understand how to get the throw out bearing disconnected (and also reconnected), patience and a good assortment of tools to get all the mounting points realigned to get the bolts back in (rear motor mount is the worst), but aside from that, it's not complicated, just a lot of work. Took me 12 hours by myself with no lift. I do all my own work on my cars, and have a decentcomplete set of tools. The only thing I learned from doing my own clutch was "what a pain in the a$$ it was". I'll pay someone next time, of course I'll be there to supervise though. I can see how it would be very frustrating to a mechanic on the clock, who would be willing to take some shortcuts and some really big hammers to shorten the job.

I have never seen or done a clutch install but I do similar tedious crap on aircraft.

If I pay someone else to do it, it will be done with experience HOWEVER, it wont be done with the same care I would give.

This is why I will do the job myself - I got all the time in the world to do the job and double, triple, quadruple check everything.

Not to mention not have to flip 3 more bills on to what I just spent for a kit.
