New Evo MR owner, exhaust question
New Evo MR owner, exhaust question
So Ive had my 06 MR for a few weeks now. Managed to rack up 1500 miles, the car is sooo much fun and is one of the coolest things you can own.
I live in the SF Bay Area. 31 M European, moved to the US when I was 8.
I dont want to void the warranty, I ordered a K&N drop in, seems to be the best without messing with the CPU. Ive been thinking about the exhaust.
What is a good all around exhaust system for the evo? Deep tone, not like a civic etc.
Also, does exhaust make that much difference HP wise on this car?
Any input, experiences and opinions are appreciated!

Yes, of course it makes power...about 30whp, but on a IX you'll want to be tuned to get all the power. Plus, an exhaust will void your warranty, too, so if that matters to you, then don't bother.
Why do new people say they don't want to sound like a civic? We can't possibly sound like a civic, because we don't have their engines. It's the engine that makes it sound that way, not the exhaust...

Believe it or not, i've heard a few that sound AWEFUL. just today i happend stop at a light with one. I thought "cool, HKS hiper" or so i thought. when he took off, it sounded like a damn bumble bee. couldnt believe it. i guess its one those damn ebay exhausts.
But Warr is right though, as long as you buy a quality exhaust, you wont have the fart can sound for the most part.
exhaust
I too was worried about adding the exhaust and warranty issues. I spoke to my dealer [part manager & service manager] and they told me that as long as the issue does not have to do with the new aftermarket exhaust or that the exhaust caused the problem, there would be no issues. They even went so far as to say, for example if you burn a valve, blow your transmission, or your intake goes bad then there would be no issue.
I will obviously have the dealer sign something stating that whichever exhaust I get is fine, otherwise there is always some risk....

If you are worried about keeping your warranty, then store your car. Mitsu is a pain in the A#$ to get anything covered. They will not let you do anything that will add any performance to your vehicle and forget any bolt-ons, they will void it in a flash!! Another thing, if you are going to install an exhaust the ECU will not let the engine take advantage of the mod it will pull time of the engine. the only way to get the best of the mods any mods is to tune your car by a well known tuner, on a Dyno first, and then steet or track tune.
Get a goal first , If you like, for example; 450whp, then look what mods you need to do first to get there; and then tune it well and test, and test it again and again. there are many ways to get good hps of this engine. For the most ther is the safe way and the wrong way. the safe way is more costly$$$$$$. I can only tell you what i have done to get 427 whp, first get rid of the fuel pump and get one that pumps 255Lph or better( ie Walbro) get a good exhaust, and intake, hard pipes, BOV, and a good size IC, Perrin makes an exellent one, MBC is a must or an EBC is also a good idea, Turbo timer is a good idea. then get the car ecutec or any type of good dyno tune. There; enjoy it; you will be good for low 12's for about 10 min then your clutch will burn like popcorn. You will have to invest in a aftermarket clutch, maybe, ACT the complete system, Plate, disk, flywheel. Three months later you will need a new set of tires!! well I think you get the idea by now. The more you put in the more stress you will have on other parts another good idea is to replace the head bolts with some ones from ARP. other mod you should consider are cams and injector, and a bigger cat. That if you are going to go over 450whp
Good luck with your RIDE is a fun one.

I have the same car as you and I have a K&N drop-in filter as you do and a full 3" TBE, Helix V2 downpipe, Helix test pipe (cat delete) and the Greddy Evo 2 cat back and I couldn't be happier. Get the mechanical CEL fix and you don't get a cel, got a great deal thru gruppe-s.com for all of it and I love it. Quite the noticable power gain, great sound, great look and great fit, very high quality product(s) that I highly recommend... Just my 2 cents

If you want a quiet hassel free exhaust, get the apexi noir.
since you are in the bay area, you can read some local reviews of the exhaust on our local forum here.

While it's true Rolex is about image, you do get what you pay for when it comes to quality and fitment. Rolex is an innovator and supplies a very high quality product. Works provides the same only they don't make watches.
