There is nothing wrong w/ going to a 3.5" exhaust. Get whatever exhaust you want (As long as its 3" or greater). The performance gain of a 3.5" will be very little over a 3" exhaust though.

I agree but if this guy goes nuts and builds himself a AMS stroker and GT35R I bet a 3.5in exhaust would pick up some ponies over the 3" :0

True, I really dont think it really will matter a whole lot unless you plan on going all out. If so go with the 3.5 you may see some gain. Or just buy both, put em on and let us know what happens

Hey Mike,
Saw your post while I was browsing from home and wanted to be sure you had all of your questions answered. If you need any sound/video clips I can provide them. We use a 3.5" system to be sure that there will never be any restriction at any power level and it will grow with your mods rather than ever need upgrading. It sucks upgrading upgrades so we sought to avoid that completely. I made 327whp light on timing and at stock boost through all HorsepowerFreaks parts (intake, FMIC w/ piping and 3.5" turbo-back) on my stock '05 turbo on straight 92 octane and we shall see soon what it does with our GT35R kit on C16 at big boost. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to answer them.

How is it that people insist back pressure is good for anything?

On a turbo charged car, it is NOT good for ANYTHING. At all, ever on a turbo car, If anyone wants to know why, I'll be in the corner with my dunce cap on.

you cant really put an exhaust that is too big on a turbo car because the turbo works off of the pressure differential between the pre and post turbo exhaust path, however if you will make more power with a 3.5 over a 3 inch is debatable. you will make more power with the larger exhaust but it could be very minimal

a 3.5in is overkill. unless you will be pushing anything over 550hp. its just for bragging rights, and to scrap while driving daily.

This guy has it right. You gotta take it easy warr i have only been on these forums for a few months now and i cant tell u how many times i have read you *****ing at someone for not buying bushur stuff. We all know buschur makes good power for low price. You gotta CHILL.

But unless you plan on doing some serious upgrade down the line 3.5 is a bit much, but its an awesome kit, makes power, and sounds nice so if u like it by all means get it dude.

Thanks for the kind words guys, glad to hear you're enjoying your parts! Our exhaust system is definitely big but it tucks up under the car very nicely. Here's an under-car shot for reference:

The power gains may not be big over 3" at lower power levels but we built this system to ensure that the exhaust system is never a hindrance as the turbo, fuel system, intercooler, etc. get bigger. As mentioned above, bigger definitely doesn't hurt on a turbo car while you work on the rest of your upgrades

Tom, great looking system Do you have a weight on it?

I hate being a critic, but I noticed the clamps you use are the same as the Buschur Racing units. There were some minute issues with that, I am curious, how does the HPF unit hold up?

I am in the very slow process of saving money and selling my Evo 8......to get a 9.

You have parts that fit the 9, correct?

I like doing stuff in groups....air flow, drivetrain...electronics....fuel system, turbo....etc

So I actually want to do the full exhaust, inercooler, piping....intake....etc....do all the HPF units fir the 9's? Im sufing the site right now, just curious if there are any issues.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

The clamps used in our kits are actually the same ones used by most semi truck exhaust manufacturers though I can't verify if anyone else uses these exact units. These must keep a constant seal despite extreme vibration in truck applications and they were chosen for that reason. You can torque them down as tight as a 1/2" drive air gun will tighten; the seal is awesome. Our entire line of products is designed to fit both the Evo VIII and Evo IX so when you're ready just give us a call and we'll get you set up.
