I just got my greddy type s on last night and yes i know with these cars it is best to run a recirc but the one i have didnt come with one and im planning on adding it later. My question is what could be cause a small whining noise out of the bov at idle and i can hear it sometimes around 3-5,000rpms and the car feels like it wants to bog down just a little unless im really on the throttle? I have adjusted the bov between hard and soft a few times and it is still doing it.

Well it seems there is always someone having "issues" with this BOV, in fact just the other day there was some kind of argument that I participated in. Anyways, I think that BOV is supposed to whine, thats what someone else said in a different forum. I use the APS bov, which I have never heard anyone have any issues with that one, which I would highly recommend. If you are dead set on keeping the Greddy, I would get the recirc kit ASAP, and make sure you have all the clamps really tight, using a socket not just a screwdriver to tighten them.
I had it on my evo for a year and never had problems with it at all. That whinning you hear is normal. Mine and eveyone I know that has it does it.
And definetly get that recirc kit soon, or I would suggest not putting it on at all.

yep...and use some high temp silicone gasket between your flange and the BOV the rubber gasket sucks... it is suppose to whine a little bit but not much, how i adjusted mine was leave the car at idle, you will here the valve making noise... slowly tighten the screw until it stops... then take it out for a ride and make sure you are getting the Blow off noise you are suppose to and not turbo flutter... also use some teflon tape on the setting screw. lol, also wouldnt hurt to open it up and make sure that the heavy spring is the only one in there.... i had problems with my valve not even opening because they both were in there.... a good way to test this is to make sure you can push the valve open with some pressure

I had a Type-S on my car when I bought it. They really do suck. The whine you hear is a leak. You need to adjust the set screw. The problem is, when you do, it will cause bucking from the new surge issue that you will have created from tightening the screw. However, it is the lesser of 2 evils.
Also, if you have not done the single spring mod, then get that done. It will help the issue with compressor surge, but will not cure it.
AND
Recirc the damn BOV, that is what is causing the bog down issue.
If you want to VTA, get a dual port like the APS. It is worth the money.

I don't see why out of all the blow off valves, people keep choosing this one, if you search you can clearly see that it sucks, yet people keep on using it, talk about ignorance!
well i read good and bad. i got it because it was easy im not asking for your opinion on it im asking for your help. im planning on ordering a brand new bov havnt decided what one yet with a recirc kit before i go to the dyno and get tuned.
I am very pleased with mine.
Here's what I did with it:
I disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and reassembled it, leaving only the heavier of the two springs in it, and aligning one of the holes in the "crown" of the upper body with the small upper vacuum pipe, the one that does not need to be hooked up. I did laps on the highway for about an hour with a wrench handy, slowly tightening the valve until I could no longer hear it "leak" whistle under acceleration as described. This is when valves leaks the most, WOT on thw highway. Although I know what whistling sound you are referring to, I am not 100% sure it is leaking boost, and I am still trying to get to the bottom of this in my car. In the meantime, here is my solution:
Since I drive around town more than on the hightway, I just loosened it until it hardly ever surges at all, counting the number of turns until I reached this point from my highway tension. Now if I know I will be getting on the highway, I just tighten it back down that number of turns and have the best of both.
It still does surge a tiny bit, only at partial deceleration/lifting of throttle, but still opens crisp and clear when it matters and upon abrupt decel. AFAIK the very minor surging is not enough to damage the turbo.
Mine is recirculated with an open element cone intake, and it is still plenty loud!
It sounds great, because you get just the very beginning of a surge before it releases and whistles/chirps. Much like the clip here:

For whp under 400whp, just get the MR BOV, aluminum body, $99 shipped can't go wrong.
For anything larger we recommend the Tial BOV, but of course that is a non-recirc.

The type-s doesnt need a recirc adapter for the evo.. You probably have it installed incorrectly.. Upload a pic or describe how you have it installed..
The side with the flange should be connected the the tube that goes next the the battery. The outlet or tube side (without the 2 bolt flange) should be conected to your turbos charge pipe.
After you make sure it is connected that way, adjust the screw.. You may also need to change out the spring to work correctly.
Mine works fine after i tuned it correctly for the evo.
Also: the poster above be is talking out his *** i bet.. The type-s is rated up to 30PSI.
