oil squirters needed?

From: City O Sin, MA...the not so sinish part though...
oil squirters needed?

If your gonna build a 2.4 liter engine with coated pistons(dish and skirts), are oil squirters really necessary? Say on a daily driver car?

for a daily driver, drag racer, oil squirters are not necessary.

if you plan on tracking your car, running it hard, then i suggest installing them. oil squirters reduce the piston crown temps a bunch, but if you arent hammering the car for an hour at a time, i wouldnt sweat it.

just make sure the tune is safe.

They are there to cool the piston. If you remove them though I think you still have to plug up the holes, because you will lose oil pressure.

EVOs do have oil squirters. The original post inquires about a 2.4L, which uses a 4G64 block (not an EVO block), that does not have oil squirters.

EVOs are not equipped with forged pistons.

Make sure who ever is boring your block uses a torque plate, because if your skirts are coated and a torque plate is not used, you have a 90% chance of wearing all that coating off and having it go right into your oil within a few minutes of the motor running. You need to make sure you have ideal piston/wall clearance under tension with the head on. I had the factory coated wiseco's in a motor that was not bored with a torque plate, the coating wore off in about 200 miles.

For 10 seconds down the strip they are not needed. Chasing down that R1 on the highway your gonna want them. Mitsubishi installed two squirters per piston for a reason. Forged pistons need it even more because they swell more than the factory material. I drill my rods and fit the block for squirters when I build a motor for myself.

Anytime you machine a block you should use a torque plate. It just doesn't make sense not to.

two oil squirters per piston??? i only saw one per cylinder.
