I bought 264's that were used and stepped up to some used 272's not too long ago. I can tell a big difference between the two as far as topend goes. Plus 272's sound better.

How you like your car with the 02 and hotside? I have both sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. Could you tell the difference any?

Do I need those too? If I get HKS cams and gears?

any of the hks cams you are fine w/ the stock springs and retainers. they all have the same lift. Upgraded springs and retainers are for agressive profiles like revolvers/juns and/or if you will be revving at 8K+ rpms.

Helix Super-Light Cam gears & 272 Camshafts - $449 shipped, $599 Installed. No need for valvetrain. We have HKS & gears in stock also, but with the pricing on the Helix Cams, I don't foresee we'll be selling a lot of them anymore. If you want a 264 or 280 setup you should consider going with the HKS, but on the 280's I would recommend porting and headwork. The idle is also quite rough.

Cheers,

Gary

If you're going the springs / retainer route, definitely look at the Revolver setup. The huge lift and duration (thus requiring springs and retainers) is a big plus for the built motor car. However if you're not running built motor / built head / big turbo, I'd stick with the 272's. Helix ones we're doing at $349 right now, revolvers are double if not triple the price (worth it if you're heavily modded though).

Not all cam gears are created equal (though I haven't seen a non-adjustable one). The Helix ones weigh less than 1lbs each, which is a huge difference in rotating mass, I'm running the Helix ones just for the weight difference, creating an additional +1 degree of overlap is nice, but didn't do much for me on the 20G turbo. The lighter gears definitely rev happier though.

Cheers,

Gary

ether a 264/272 or straight 272

264/272 will give you a bit broader of a torque band down low, and has an idle nearly indistinguishable from stock. Straight 272's have a bit more of a "I have cams" sound at idle, even with a perfect tune (Sean does great work BTW!)

If you plan down the road to build a motor/head and/or go larger turbo, do the straight 272's. If you never plan to change your turbo, or never plan to build an all out head/bottom end, either the 264/272 or straight 272's will work well

You'll have zero need for cam gears with either setup given your current mods

We've also got 1 set of 272's at the old price too (HKS pricing went up on cams on June 1)

I got 272 gsc's with stock cam gears.

Everyone on here is going to tell you that the cams they bought / they sell are the best

In my personal opinion cam gears are overrated

they are by no means over rated - its a great way to manipulate the power band, but it needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing, while a tune is being done. For the average Joe, I agree, they are overkill

After SEARCHING i decided on 272/272 HKSs myself, having them installed next week.

Love it how simple threads turn into informercials with these vendors pushing their products...

NO buy the HKS 272/272s from me, at 134 easy monthly payments for $19.99 they can be yours!

(Just giving everyone a hardtime, dont worry! )
