Can you apply a gt35r to a stock block?
Sorry new to the evo community i dont feel like searching for hours and hours, is it possible to run a gt35 on a stock block, i dont want to go internal for a while, but how much hp can i run on a stock block without blowing it up, i understand this turbo is good for like 700 awp? help me out and btw my car is a black 06 9 evo thx
It is all about the boost and then tune you are running. Low boost on pump gas and a nice safe tune, you can run almost anything but the question is, on low boost and gt35r, does it worth it?
You can always pump the boost even on stock block with race gas but be careful if the car knocks or anything like that, your stock block may not forgive you at that high boost.

You can run a GT35R on a stock block on pump gas, low boost I'd say 20-24psi range depending on how the car is tuned. That said your low end and midrange is going to be pretty lousy. The GT35R, on a 2.0 4cyl car is really a race gas / drag race turbo. I would look into a GT3076 or better yet GT3037 kit for your stock block if you're daily driving or seeing track time. We have a GT3037 kit on special in the vendor sections. If you're going GT35R I'd really recommend a stroker motor for it, the torque curve is shifted so far to the left on the stock 2.0 it's not very appealing.

I've run 25-27psi on my Eclipse on a stock motor minus headstuds/cams/headgasket + meth. Made upwards of 450awhp and ran sub 11.7XX passes at over 125+...all in the tune my friend. I personally ran it with ~660cc of 100% meth from my DIY kit and tuned at 11.5a/f with 16degrees of peak timing. Motor compression/leakdown is perfectly within reason

Those dislexic fingers got you again! The torque curve is shifted to the right (high RPM) not to the left (low RPM's) on the stock 2.0 running the GT-35R.
Running the GT35R on the stock block with pump gas and alcohol injection at 29 psi of boost and I start making great torque at 20 psi of boost right at 4700 RPM. Below that I am not making as much power as a heavily modified stock turbo EVO... but the amazing thing to me is that I am making more power though the entire rev range with my current setup than a bone stock evo is making. I have before and after dyno plots of my car from when it was bone stock overlaid with my setup now. Take a look

Shawnevo69,
Off course you can run a GT35R on a stock block. I personally know two friends that have done it. They both live in Tucson and only one of them is on this forum.
Ther bad news is that they got rid of them because of the turbolag.
Ray(rraulston on this forum) had one but couldn't tolerate the awful spool up.
My other friend Avin ran a 12.3@113 on a GT35r with race gas in Tucson, shortly after that(2-3 days) he sold the car. He gave me a ride and the car was extremelly laggy, I could had taken him from a roll anyday of the week with my stock turbo.

I think something was wrong with his car or a tune if you could pull him with your stock turbo.

Yes indeed there were a few things wrong with his car, one of them is that he could run a lot of boost because he did not properly upgraded the injectors nor the car was tuned properly so the boost was just at 1.2bars.
The 1/4 mile times is no BS, he ran a a 12.3 once and a couple of 12.4's on race gas, trapping 111-113. His car from 1000rpm to 5500rpm was much slower than a regular Evo with a stock turbo then all the sudden the car would pull hard.

I will chime in as well. Yes you can run a 35R on the stock block safely. It really does come down to how you are tuned.
I made 440awhp on a super safe tune. My lag is not that bad. I make full boost around 4300 rpm. The lag doesnt bother me that much. My tq numbers however are lower as was stated earlier. If you go with a full t4 35R then expect really low tq numbers. I am running 23 psi on 93 octane. You can run upwards of 500awhp on the stock block and be ok. Make sure that you have a good tune though.
That is the key!

With plenty of problems with my car I can still consistantly hit 11.10's with my stock engine and GT35r combo. Once I sort out my boost and ignition issues I am quite sure that high 10's will be had on crappy street tires. My 60' times are usually 1.71-1.85 with these tires and thats plenty for the 11.10's I normally get... you can imagine if I had traction.
I think we decided in another thread that it's probably safe to run up to 35 psi on the stock block concidering you have the correct tuning, and mod combination (meaning better flowing bigger turbo).
So yes, run a 35r on c16 at a little over 30 psi with supporting mods, and run 10's. No problem...
