Limey have you ever thought that when Mits. put on their web site,,,,,,,0-60 IN 5 SECONDS, that it ment that this car wash to be very very fast.. This means everyone expects the car to fly from off the line= drag racing!!!

They didnt mention thou that you have to launch from high rpms to acheive these numbers. Otherwise,,, bog bog bog

That is why people are asking how to launch this car, MITS says it will do 0-60 in 5 seconds. So people are going to want to be able to do this. And yes it will wear your parts quickly....

Just my take on this, I havnt really raced anyone as of yet, and I dont think this car is a super fast car, All I can say is it is QUICK.

I call it the motorcycle concept...

When your out riding, it's you, the machine and some twisties..
I look at the evo as if it's a motorcycle you sit in..just go out an drive!! If you run into somebody that wants to play, great. But really, your not hunting around for someone to drag or anything..

Acceleration rapid, brakes awesome, independance while driving..Lost in your own world..

AWESOME!!
I agree. Everyone probably has a small part of the world to themselves and the EVO is mine. I put in a favorite CD, turn it up, and roll down the window, lean my head back against the seat and drive! It is really neat driving a car that can only be caught on a dry straight road and then only by a small handful of cars in the world

And if you world is to stage next to a gorgeous LT1 Camero and hammer him/her off the line. that’s ok too.

Speedlimit......

yeah, but you still didnt say anything about the sweet spot in THIS forum. you cant tell people to be on topic and post relevant comments if you dont make any yourself. thats all im sayin.

what is limey? i dont know what to tell you if you couldnt figure out that blazing 0-60mph times in a 4wd car would be abusive. i knew that before i got the car. also, when did ANY automobile manufacturer EVER mention HOW TO "lauch" your car or how to drive it in general to get the max performance??? for example in my dads S2000, i didnt have to read countless forums about how the car couldnt launch and that you had to also blaze the tires in order to keep from burning the clutch - from the first drive it was obvious. if you didnt realize that the car was fast off the line simply because the 4wd and hi-rpm clutch drops, then i dunno what to tell you. i realized that... this was really evident in subaru performance campaigns for the WRX - fast 0-60 and 1/4 times but shietty trap speeds cuz the car was fast simply because the launch but had mediocre acceleration.

I understood your point before, but I believe I made relevant comments about what some other posters said. My main point was that the thread author has the right to post a valid question and receive informative responses without a bunch of people bashing him. I wanted to show that there are people here who respect his question and who will defend him against unprovoked attacks. I'd do that for anyone (except for newbies with REALLY stupid comments, like "I can adjust my Recaro seat!"
Hey, when can I borrow your Evo? I promise I won't burn the clutch too badly!

Somebody said something about launching an S2000. To get a good launch on that car, you HAVE to dump the clutch out at or over 7000rpms. Yes, it's sick to think you'd need to launch so high in a RWD car, but that thing simply has no torque. Slipping the clutch in this car doesn't work either. Car drops revs too fast.

About the 0-60 in 5 seconds in an Evo, I think with the right driver, in any stock Evo, sub-5 second 0-60's are realistic. Abusive, probably, but >5 seconds is a realistic number.

......incase anyone is still looking for that launch sweet spot, it's 5500rpm - 6000rpm

Not even gonna say what the EVO was really built for...what and how you use your car is YOUR business...as for the sweet spot...around 5500~6400 rpms. YES you can hard launch and YES it's hard on the tranny and YES you should change the stock components BEFORE such endevours. To have fun with the car is what it is all about anyways... whether it be in straight line, off-road, around cones..whatever. The point is the EVO was meant to run....HOW and where is your busniness. Just keep it legal and just keep it safe PEACE

Oh yes they are...just old ones!

Seems to me to be a waste of money to buy an Evo for drag racing. Alot of the performance bits on the car are being wasted if you only want to go straight. Could shed a bunch of weight by getting rid of the big brakes, chassis reinforcements, sway bars, strut braces, and stuff like that. Probably shave a couple of 10ths off your ET.

Then a $20k Neon SRT with $5k worth of go fast mods is gonna spank you anyway and he'll still have an additional $5k left to play with!

I have a evo VII with nitrous and I launch with the nitrous.....i launch around 5700rpm and i always slip the clutch...sometimes the clutch smells but that is the sacrifice you have to make if you want to drag race.Better to burn the clutch than damage the transfer case or gearbox or something.Dumping would cause this.

Guys, I put 250 1/4mi passes and countless autocrosses on my car before I broke my transmission. Want to know when I broke it? Driving home from work one day in December while granny shifting.

My transmission is weaker than an Evo's transmission.

If you drag race the car the right way, you aren't going to break the transmission in a stock or even bolt-on modded Evo.

Quit worrying about how other people drive their cars and the events they choose to race in.

Don't really know what granny shifting is....
Yeah go right ahead and drag race with a stock clutch.....
But I agree with you on the race the type race you want to...it's your money and your car PEACE
