Stupid Fbody made me stall ;/
I bet running an aftermarket intake (like the poster's HKS) probably has a little to do with the MAF going bezerk with loud sounds. The stock airbox has a weird plastic cross-hatch design inside the lid.. which would probably help absorb sound and keep it quieter in there. I run with the stock airbox and haven't had this happen to me.. and I frequent the strip with loud dragsters all the time.
Well its a been strange that is happens to some of the cars yet not all... guess everyone should list air intake mods they have maybe its a certain intake/maf configuration that makes the car more susceptible to stalling.
Take a stock evo, open the hood while the car is idling, and then tap on the airbox. the same thing will happen.
It;s the MAF and the sound frequency emmitting from the pipes not the sound level.

I have the Helix cone filter and hardpipe on my 05 Evo. My car is afraid of loud V8s while at idle.
My friend had the Buschur cone filter kit...stock rubber pipe and his 03 Evo had the same issue.

Just bleep your throttle to about 2K RPM and it will be fine.
FWIW, it appears that only certain frequency and amplitude(volume) would cause my car to do this. Even some Bikes or some open header Hondas would give my car a hickups. But I learned to blip the throttle a bit when I get beside them.

Guys, I just don't get it. I read about this over a year ago and did a little experimentation to reproduce the idle dip/stall.
First, I had an open pipe harley and idled and revved at varying distances and directions (in front of engine, next to air box, pipes pointed toward/away from car, you name it and I did it). No problems detected.
I then had my friend with a built mustang pretty much do the same thing as the harley. His car is so loud that when I'm behind him at a light I can "feel" his exhaust in my throat. Not a hiccup.
Must be hit or miss (maybe frequency and not decibel).

i have a buschur filter kit only, i have many friends that have american muscle with loud exhausts and some even with dump exhaust and i never ever heard of this or had it happen to me. We r always going on group drives. I even have a car club filled with exotics and even the loud loud loud vipers reving all around me at lights dont make my car stutter. But this is a very interesting topic.

It's called harmonic resonance.
the freuquency of the sound and volume of it cause a disruption in the MAF. It may be the plastic in the airbox picking up the vibration and causing a distortion in the air passing through the maf or it could quite possibly be the vibration being picked up by the honeycombs.
I personnally dont see this and i am using a cone filter; Not to say that this is the cure though.
