I gotta ask a few things. Thanks for this thread, by the way...I don't know anything about this and I learned a lot thus far. But Claudius is running Castrol RS 5/60 ?!?! What's with that. It seems so high-viscosity and even though it's going to protect the engine like crazy, is it really down to 5wt at temp or are you losing tons of HP?

thats a huge range...
meaning a ton of additives and thus a lot of deposit.

I'm sure it covers the range, maybe not well, since with all that additives its gonna breakdown a lot easier. BUT if you change it early, it probably hasn't broken down yet. Who knows short of running some lab tests.

Mobil 1 has a 15W50, use that if you want protection at the hotter temps... probably great for summer time!

Taking advice from someone who writes stuff like this:

Say What?

Anyhow, here are some cars which DO boost: Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Aston Martin DB7 Vantage. They all have seriously expensive engines and they all produce serious power stock - over 400 hp and over 400 lb-ft of torque. And they all come from the factory filled with Mobil 1.

Most so-called engine builders are clueless about tribology. Heck, they probably don't even know what the word means.

Tribology

Oh hell, even I know what tribology is...and I don't even build engines. It's the study of the history of the little furry creatures, tribbles, that infested the starship enterprise when Kirk was still captain. Don't play US for ignorant! HA!

I break my cars in with olive oil and sometimes vegetable oil, sometimes I even let the car drop below 4k RPMS, usually I try to keep it at the rev limiter.

Race cars use Mobil 1 too, but it's not the same Mobil 1 you buy in stores. I'm sure the factory fill Mobil 1 is different too.

Question: I accidentally got 5w30 mobil1 synthetic put in when I did my oil change the other day... Think I should swap it out for the 10w30 or will I be ok to run on the 5?

Boost Solutions!!!

First thing I did. Dyno oil is the best way to brake a motor in. It can't hurt.

This is the first EVO to ever have Syn. from the factory.

10/30 dyno for the first 3K and then a fine Syn like red line is my plan.

I support ya buddy!

Built a few motors my self.

with the warm florida temps you'll be better with the 10W, but you'll be OK with the 5W. Unless you're tracking it at full boost for a couple hours.

About this turbo vs NA oil thing. So Boost Solutions is saying don't boost with Syn oil because of the extra pressure on the cylinders. But don't NA motors have significantly higher compression? Creating ALMOST equal 'cylinder pressures'.

No boosted cars have much higher cyl pressure. That's why they require more fuel and less ing advance then a NA car.

Another example is to large of a exhaust on A na car will lose Tq because a NA car needs some back pressure to increase the cyl pressure.

8.8/1 static compertion (EVO motor)
10.5 / 1 Static compertion to a 330ic

8.8/1 Static compertion + 19 Pounds per square inch = much higher compertion then 10.5/1. I don't know the formula off the top of my head but under boost compretion is around 14/1.

That's why we turbo charge cars
