Need for an Oil Catch Can?

Hello, I was just wondering if people have put enough miles on the EVOVIII to disassemble the intake tract and examine the need for an oil catch can? Anyone noticing oil pooling in the IC elbows or other tale-tale signs. I'm talking stock motor at stock boost.

Unless Mitsu changed their hose design, you're probably coating your intercooler with oil right now Of course I don't know how the crankcase hoses are setup on the Evo, I'm just speculating.

Is this in relation to the EGR valve?

I think they are talking about the valve cover vent that returns to the intake? If so, buy Buschur's intake, he eliminated the inlet nipple on the intake which will reduce the turbo and intercooler oil coating.

Would someone please elaborate on this. I am very interested in knowing what a "catch can" does.

You can also just get an inline fuel filter for $3 from your local auto parts store, like I did

youll have ot keep changing that though when it gets caked up with oil
also you better watch it all the time if that thing gets clogged youll start to build crank case pressure and then your definetly screwed

Think I'll just have to build one... not like it is hard to do... maybe I'll break down and replace my digital camera for some pictures...

I just empty it out every time I change my oil - it doesn't fill up very fast. Also, the PCV is going to clean out crankcase pressure anyways whenever there's an intake manifold vacuum.

Where do you put the filter at? Like in what line?

I did pretty much exactly what's listed on this page:

http://www.tgilmore.com/talon/catchcan.html

Only takes a couple minutes, and keeps your intercooler free from oil

Hey guys, here's my deal, I have the BR mas pipe and air filter, the BR pipe deletes the nipple that connects the hose from the valve cover to the mas pipe. I have been running around with a little breather filter over the nipple that comes off of the valve cover and am starting to notice oil coming back out of the valve cover and out of the little breather filter. I don't have the cash to pick up a nice oil catch can at the moment so I decided to go on the advice of a friend and the info CornerHard put up. Since I no longer can route the hose from the valve cover to the mas pipe, can I just hook a fuel filter up to the valve cover nipple with some hose in a loop, 2 pieces of hose with the fuel filter in line connecting the two with a tee connector where the other two ends meet then leading back to the valve cover, will this work or will there be problems if that nipple from the valve cover isn't able to vent, if so could I just drill a few small holes in the fuel filter, obviously in a spot away from the oil, to let the pressure vent. Boils down to this, will there be problems if that crank case pressure is not vented and just runs through this loop with the filter? Thanks ahead of time for any input, it will be greatly appreciated.

Late,
Josh
