Exclamation conflicts with turbo timer and remote start alarms

Ok, now that i've been reading from you guys that if i install a turbo timer that means it disarms my remote start alarm?? thats how i'm seeing it.....i need to know if its going to be alot of trouble putting in the turbo timer or just putting the compustar alarm with the timer built into it??

Another question do i really need a turbo timer if i'm just going to be messing around and giving it a little gas once in awhile or can i just manually cool down the engine without a turbo timer?? guys i'm really confused, i don't mine spending the money because its my first baby, and i only want the best for it....so if you can give me good suggestions.....i would appreciate it

my suggestion is to go for one or the other, either remote start, or turbo timer. 99% of remote start/ alarm systems will allow you to leave the car running and locked, effectivelt replacing the turbo timer. if you just want urbo timer, get that. with both you'll run into issues such as the car unlocking when the turbo timer expires, plus other stuff i cant even predict, but wouldnt be good.

no you dont really need a turbo timer, unless you're gonna be pulling right off a highway where you've been boosting ( going between 50 & 80 repatedly, not just steadily), and park the car immediately and turn it off.. if you usually drive slowly before you park it, usually about 30 secs will be enough to let it cool. just leave it running while you put up the windows, close the sunroof, gather your things, finish listenign to that song on the radio, etc. and you'll be fine. I really didnt need a turbo timer myself, but i wanted a 2-way alarm, so the turbo mode is just gravy.

a bit off topic, but how did you endup with this car if you dont mind my asking. You simply dont seem to be the harcore enthusiast/ gearhead that I'd expect evo owners to be. did you know about this car long ago and were waiting for it, or did you discoverit just as it came out.. no offense or belittling intended at all, just curious.

It is my understanding that none of the new Viper or Clifford alarms will work as a turbo timer with their remote start on a manual gear box. I'm not sure whether any other alarms out there will allow you to do it but I know that those are two of the bigger companies (well actually one now since DEI bought out Clifford).

I have a turbo timer and an aftermarket alarm (no remote start). The alarm is configure to arm and lock the doors a period after the ignition shuts off.

For example, I set the turbo timer to 30 secs, so I drove home, take out the car key and close the door without arming the alarm. The turbo timer keeps the car running for 30 secs then shuts off the ignition. A period of time after the ignition is shut off, the alarm arms the car and locks the doors by itself.

To tell u the truth, I haven't had to use my turbo timer once yet becuase I always take it easy on the way home, let the car cool down driving back.

i came upon this car because it was the competition to the STI...I had a deposit on the STI already and was ready to buy it...but i wanted to see how and what the difference was....so we went down the dealer and they only had one....so the sales dude told me he would give me a ride in it after work so we waited....he gave me a ride and i fell in love!!! i told him that i would buy the car and was ready to do paperwork....i just couldn't believe on how much power it had....although i didn't get to see the STI i just figured that this car would be for me... and the car that was coming in for me was blue so i ended up with a blue one and i'm in love....I like racing my car but i just want to make sure that this car is being treated good and i don't want to break it...so i want the perfect things and make sure it will be compatable with my car.....

sounds cool, good to see we won some of the sti crowd.. apparently all themagazines agree w/ you.

vanilla sky, my alarm is a DEI hornet, 554T.

DSMNate, you're right, in order for a dei alarm to work as turbo timer, the remote start function needs to be hooked up. Most alarm shops will not hook up a remote start due to liabilities. What I had mine do was hook up the remote start and leave the ground wire for the neutral safety disconnected (keeps them safe legally). I then hooked up my own neutral safety switch (thanks to Yannotmi's design), so now the remote start and turbo timer mode works.

Compustar is the only vendor that makes a true turbo timer remote starter. They are also the main player in the 2way alarm remotes. They have models that will actually work 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. They also make more improvisions for manual transmissions and remote start. I will be prolly going with the compustar if I can get over that huge remote.

Turbo timer question

It appears that the turbo timers with the EVO harness work with the ignition key system ( start disable) the question is does it eliminate the system so you lose that security?
