XSPower (eBay) Exhaust Question...

I just bought the XSPower (eBay) exhaust. I figured for the money, I will cut the cheesey muffler off, weld a resonator on, and have cheap 3" mandrel bent piping!

It comes with the same gaskets that the O2 housing comes with. I know that most everyone suggests NOT using the gasket that comes with the O2 but to use the stocker. If this is true, then the gaskets must suck and leak. So, I may need new gaskets to fit this exhaust instead of using the supplied offerings. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get gaskets to fit this 3" piping?

I thought the muffler looked fine, what's wrong with it? I think that **** in the tip is just a silencer.

How much did you get it for?

In the picture on Ebay it shows a full TBE, but it says Catback in the title, what actually came?

I am not into the 40" fart can look. Plus, I would rather save the weight and just weld a resonator in its place.

$240 shipped.

Yes, it is a TBE. It has a down pipe, test pipe, axle back section and whatever the section that connects from the test pipe to the axle back is called.

why buy a 30,000 dollar car and then put the worst parts possible on it.

if you can't afford to mod.. you shouldn't be.

Another nay sayer. I knew this would happen.

Okie dokie "Onrails", if the eBay "XSPower" parts are so horrible, then why does Buschur sell their O2 housing? I happen to have that as well...

I have inspected the piping and it is perfect. The flanges are thick and the welds are exact. All I want out of it is the piping and not the muffler. Why, I have to ask, should I spend 3 times the price for the exact same thing.

I think the difference is that I CAN afford to mod but I choose not to waste my money. I love how people bring up the 30,000 thing like that is sooo expensive for a vehicle. lol....

Anywho, back to my original question and the real responses from educated individuals...

I answered your questions about the gaskets in your PM.

But why would you buy the exhaust and then ditch the muffler & weld a resonator in there? Your going to wind up spending more money in the long run now.

it's not about being cheap, it's about getting the most out of your money. you didn't buy and evo just for the performance, you could have spend 2 to 3 times more on a car that has similar performance. you bought the evo because its the most performance you can get for the money. so, just because you spent 30k+ on a car, doesn't mean you have to spend $800 on an exhaust that doesn't offer anymore gain over a $200 exhaust other than the brand name. if money is no object, than you wouldn't be driving an evo.

to answer the original question. it's fine to use the gaskets it came with for the exhaust sections, use oem gaskets for the 02 housing. just make sure you center the gasket before tighten the bolts, the bolt holes on the gaskets are bigger then the bolts, so it could be offset and cause turbulence in exhaust flow.

Wonder what kind of fancy shmancy exhaust you have? It should have cost you at least a G. And I'm sure the design from the xspower to whatever you think is awesome is a night and day difference b/c every exaust is sooooo different.

Back to the subject...I reused mine, otherwise the best place would be
BTW, I have the same xspower exhaust and it sounds great, install fit perfect. The muffler is kinda big in comparison to some others and there is no flex pipe. Managed to make 348hp and 373tq at AMS w/ mine. Must be a real pos huh onrails?

AlwaysinBoost: I do not like the muffler. It is too big and too heavy. I would rather have a light resonator in place of that hunk of metal. I am actually selling the muffler for $50, so that should cover the price of a resonator and welding (or close to it). If you add up the price I paid shipped for the exhaust ($240) minus the money I am getting for the muffler ($50) plus the price of a resonator and welding (lets say $75 total just to guess) then you end up with $265. Not a bad price for a TBE at all. BTW, thank you for your answers in PM!

honda-guy: Thank you for the answer and the much appreciated tip! BTW, I would buy your resonator but I don't think the 2.5" restriction at the end of my exhaust would work. I wish it was a full 3" and I would get it immediately. :-(

Lexat20: You reused yours? Do you mean you used the factory gaskets on the stock exhaust? Did you have to bore them out to make them fit? On the subject of the flex pipe, I was wondering about that as well. Then I noticed that other companies produce their downpipe without a flex (Buschur being one). I hope that by adding a new motor mount or damper that there will be no need for a flex.

I wouldn't worry too much about the flex especially if you plan to replace your mounts, unless you are running over 500hp it should still have enough movement from the mounts to not have to worry. Going back to your first ? no I didn't make any modification to the gasket just remove from stock exhaust and insert to new.

Wow, that seems crazy to me. The stock exhaust is 2.5 and this is 3. Seems like it wouldn't fit. Ah well, live and learn. I shall try it!

From the test pipe to the end of the exhaust is referred to as a "cat-back".

Exactly, hence why that wouldn't be an accurate description for that piece. The catback includes the muffler and the axle-back. This pipe is the one that is between the test pipe and the axle-back.
