I would also replace the timing belt tensioner while you have it apart (get the tensioner tool to make it easy on yourself). Took me about 2.5 hours to get it apart and 3 to get it back together.

Maybe new clamps but it looks like you have everyting.

Take your time. I did not take off the IM or the cams I had my head resurfaced so they took the cams off and put them back on, just lifted the head off.

Do a compression test after you are finished. I checked mine after 2 heat cycles.I may have been ****.

Good luck, have fun.

Mileage and boost when the gasket went? Mine let go around 30k with ~21 psi back in 04. Do yourself a favor and have a garage to work in, car ports are no fun for this job. Also I'd go ahead and replace your balancer belt while you're in there.

Oh yeah and let it go through a couple of full heat cycles, remove valve cover, and retorque all the studs again. I went up to 85 or 90 after heat cycling.

Tensioners used to sometimes leak. So the word was to replace them at every timing belt change interval. Hopefully that is now history.

The balance shaft belt isn't very hard at all, it'll only take about 30 minutes once you have the timing belt off. Here's a pic from when i did mine.

The balancer belt is easy as Compjoc said. Think it's pretty inexpensive from the dealer too. Oh and I replaced the tensioner as well while I was in there for good measure, may not be needed at your mileage though. Looking back I wish I would have taken care of the water pump while in there, good practice while you have everything apart. Having to work on your car during graveyard hours after customer's cars is no fun at all Good luck and feel free to ask away if there is anything else we can lend a hand with

IMO, I would replace the balance shaft belt, water pump(if over 50k) , and the tensioner is a MUST. It is only 90.00 and a heck of alot cheaper than a valve job if your resuse the one you have and it goes .

If your going to be doing that much work i'd just remove the balance shafts. It means you have to pull the oil pan and oil pump, but you will never have to worry about them again. You will hardly notice a differance with them out.

Also if you are going to pull the head apart to have it decked, magnafluxed and cleaned you are going to need new valve stem seals. If you need some PM me, I have 2 extra sets of em.

Ok, our buddy here needs some help. Anyone here with a built head have their old undamaged valves? Evoisdream needs two intake and two exhaust valves. Let's pull together and give the guy a hand. I mean someone who has their head gasket pop and then lose a tire on the trailer they bring the car back home on could use a hand.
