Tons of oil smoke after boost! Blown Turbo??

So I just got my tranny back together and in, after rebuilding it. I had removed the turbo in hopes of getting the evo 9 turbo (got ripped off on that). Well I drove it today and I am getting a TON of oil smoke. When I boost and let go of the gas, a ton of smoke comes out of the exhaust. If I don’t boost, no smoke comes out, but even if I boost slightly, smoke comes out. And when I boost hard, the smoke lasts for about 5 seconds. I drove it for about 60 miles today, and it doesn’t seem that I have lost much oil. I checked for oil leaks, and there was about a drip or two coming from around the compressor to hotside strap. However, the top of the turbo, where the oil line is, is dry with no oil residue around it.

Could it be that I have blown the turbo? I haven’t checked for shaft play yet, but if there is, what will that tell me?

by any chance are you using an af oil feed line?

If it smokes when you let go off the gas, then it sounds to me that could be the valves' guides.

Does it smokes if you let it idle for some minutes ?

no it doesn't smoke if i idle. i have seen cars with bad valve seals, and they dont smoke nearly as much. it puts out soo much smoke, that i cant even see the cars behind me in the day time.
i am using a stock oil line.

what i would do is take off the intake and look if there is oil...im not talking about the oil slug buildup from the pcv but an oil puddle(should be everywhere...intake pipe and shroud)...even with the blown seal i didn't have much shaft play on the turbo...

--how many miles on the turbo...abused?

wow...25...i believe the 8's turbo effenciency is about 21lbs, so i would figure that boosting 25 daily driven(gunning it here and there) is pushing it on the turbo...imo...but i guess it was its time...time to upgrade?

I hope this wasn't on pump gas.

That sux!! It sounds like blow-by in a BIG WAY! I don't know how removing and re-installing the turbo could cause that, unless you forgot to put in a gasket, or put something in backwards. I would remove, inspect for "play" and see where the oil is coming from. maybe you didn't tighten something. good luck, and keep us posted.

thats a good idea. i should do a compression check. but i am getting good vacum at idle and the car doesn't seem to be any slower than before. i am gonna swap out a spare turbo that i have later on today.
i have NEVER seen that much smoke coming out from a tail pipe before, its almost crazy.
hey, i guess the term "smoke em" really comes into play.

PCV valve stuck open? Under light throttle, everything is working normal, but when you boost, you'd be pushing a ton of air from the intake manifold, through the crankcase, and into the intake to the turbo, and it should mimic blow-by. But to account for the amount of smoke you're seeing, it sounds like oil liquid, not oil vapor would be needed, which points to the turbo.

Good luck, let us know what you find.
