im really giving it to mitsubishi to fix this, ive had enough of it.

mine does it every time its warmed up and i let it idle and the rpm drop to idle..when cold or higher rpm its fine. poxy pulley bearing or idler bearing and noisy belt one of them!!! or the balance shaft out of phase...somethings Up. Idiots i think at the dealership have put the bshaft out of phase when redoing the timing after replacing the timing belt tensioner Trying to fix this. argh i think its time to do it myself.

Im taking it to the dealer today, ill keep you updated on what they tell me.. I assuming something wasnt put back in right after they redid the car when they put the head back on and everything.. My idle has also been dropping lately and its not like before

im putting good money on idler pulley/bearing, timing belt itself, or another pulley immediately near the crank i.e. the crank pulley itself, my noise comes right from the plastic guard and mainly if you take that whole guard off and the wheel off and jack it up safely and idle the car right up and listen you can hear it around oil pan and from crank pulley v loud in particular. everywhere else its noisey but thats probably because your head's 5cm away lol

good luck. dont let them tell you its normal, its not i compared to other evo 9s, and also its not the release/throw out bearing since clutch doesnt affect it, and its definately not 'running in' noise or any of that crap. god its frustrating huh..

post up when you hear what they say...ill keep u updated too

the regional rep from mitsubishi is meeting my car at the dealership 9am monday, as well as they are spending a few days on it and are very determined to fix the noise.
they are armed with new belts, new idler pulleys (2) and will be Really, really trying to sort it.
Once I have it fixed in a week I'll post back, im away interstate for the few days the dealer has the car (been told NOT to drive it , ill be checking, and to be extremely careful).

Glad to hear im not the only one out there with this I think I'm close to a resolution we will finally be able to post up, however

Wasn't that whole situation about a year ago already?! And now it's gonna come into play?

Well, you never know. Good luck!

Anyways I was curious about this noise coming from my engine bay, I will take it in this week to the dealer near me. And also I'm going to have my front end suspension inspected.

I posted this problem on my evo a while back.
Try a new Goodyear 'gatorback' accessory belt with the angled rib design.
It only about 35 bucks and my cricket sounds disappeared.
