6 Exhaust Systems compared

Sadly, I have gone through more exhaust systems in my short ownership of my Evo (2k miles), then most in their lifetime. Hopefully this quick summary will help folks out looking for a quality exhaust:

1. Stock - Pro's : No TICKETS!! Not THAT restrictive either and still sounds pretty good to boot. Cons: Crush bends through and immense weight! Summary: Officer, it's stock!

2. Helix - Pro's: Great SS quality w/ 3" mandrel bends and lighter to boot. Cons: Fitment of muffler pushed against rear bumper on my IX, so could no evaluate noise / power. =/ Summary: Inconclusive, but questionable fitment issues.

3. XS Power (Ebay Brand)- Pro's: Great SS quality w/ 3" mbends at affordable price. Fitment was perfectly dead on w/ no issues. Sound was actually not much louder than stock and still made good hp. Cons: Dinky looking muffler, otherwise great value. Summary: Value at its best.

4. DC Sports - Pro's: Impeccable SS quality throughout. Fitment was good, but hung a little high on my IX. Sound wasn't too loud due to an inline resonator on the system. Cons: Weighed a little more than standard SS systems due to resonator. Costs can be more $$ as well. Summary: Unsurpassed SS quality, but weight and costs brings it down.

5. Megan Racing - Pro's: Great easy fitment (no need for rear side hangers). Very throaty sound, but does have a noise suppresor. Unbelievable support from Evo community (Zeus, et. all) Cons: Can be a bit noisy at WOT w/ suppresor. Summary: Highly recommend this due to fitment and especially unsurpassed support, although noise can be an issue.

6. Greddy Ti - Pro's: Lightweight! Titanium! Lightweight! Rolled tip! Lightweight! Easy installation! Lightweight! Cons: Unbelievably loud! WIll need to pull funds from CD account! Summary: Lightweight! $$$$$!

You're not kidding about the GReddy Ti....

I have that, WORKS DP and RTP, and my machine is LOUD. At WOT, it almost hurts my ears with the windows down.

I'm sure a ticket with my name on it is on its way....

Why so many systems? Are you using the same test pipe or cat and downpipe?

OK, I don't understand though why everyone talks about how loud the Greddy Ti is. I have it on my Evo after having the Blitz Nur Spec. The Blitz was way louder! I am one of those people that really likes a loud exhaust which is why I bought the Greddy since everyone talks about how loud it is. I have 3 inch exhaust all the way through. Is it just me?
Btw - awesome post. We needed an up to date thread on this...

well, i originally bought the helix for my car being assured it would fit perfectly. when i brung it to the shop for installation (as well as tune), it wouldn't fit without hitting my bumper. the shop had an ebay exhaust they loaned to me temporarily. I proceeded to purchase a DC sports exhaust (along with other DC Sports DP) at that time, but was very disappointed in the weight (I'm a diet freak!). So my friend lent me his MR exhaust in the interim until my Greddy Ti came. I was hoping to save money originally by avoiding the Greddy, but after assisting in the installation of my friends setup, i was just stunned by its appearance, fitment, and of course, weight. My RS is devoid of sound deadening, and has further weight reduction done to it, so the greddy resonates throughout the cabin and can be quite irratating (don't even try to talk on a cell phone). And I have a pretty high tolerance for noise coming from motorcycles. =/

btw> i added one con to the greddy...i t can rub against your stock heat shield =(

You must have installed it incorrectly, cuz I never had any problems with my Greddy Ti on rubbing on anything.

I like the look of the Greddy TI and the weight saving that comes with it. O'yeah, better buy a heat sheild or the EVO 9 JDM rear bumper if you decide to purchase the Greddy Ti.
