Too much boost? ***VIDEO***

Boost gauge video

Just got a flash installed on my IX. Right now, mods are drop-in filter, and TBE with testpipe. This is running on pump gas (92 octane)

You can see 2nd and 3rd gear are spiking at almost 25 psi and going down to 20 psi. I had the car 90-95% floored. This continues into 4th but I didn't get an entire video converted from the damn cellphone format.

Is this too much boost? I think my gauge might be 1 psi too high, but I have seen the gauge spike to even just over 26 psi if conditions were right (rolling into full boost in 2nd or 3rd).

I heard defi gauges are inaccurate and read high but you shouldnt be spiking 25 psi, im tuned on 92 octane, boost set @ 20.7 do you have a mbc?

Yes, most Defi gauges are off a little. I have a Defi D and a MAP sensor and mine is about a lb and a half off.
If your is off as much as mine, your only spiking to about 22.5 lbs.

I had the same results when I tested my map sensor against the Defi D boost gauge. The Defi D was 1.5 psi off. I ended up selling my Defi gaue and now I use an XD-16 to measure my boost from the MAP sensor

Could also be the fact that its getting colder and denser air will make your boost jump up. Before i fooled with my MBC i was hitting 23+ psi on my VIII and had to turn it down because of the weather. Just a thought.

Yea obviously weather plays a big part, but I think he is worried about the safely of running that much boost, even if only momentarily.

If they are right about the defi reading high, you are fine. If the defi is accurate, i'd still say 26 is a bit high for just a reflash...

I would find a buddy with another gauge and just test it out.

what kind of boost controll do you have. It seems like that is a large spike. My boost hits 22 psi and then hold 21.5

+1 on the weather too.

Also, in the video it looked to only spike to 24.

PS. Everybody, before you make any claims about your boost curve, make sure you check your gauge using a high quality MAP sensor and some form of loggin system.

MANY, and I mean MANY mechanical boost gauges are off.

Not sure about this but doesnt the lack of back pressure with your TBE cause it to spike higher? MBC should cure that.
