B.O.V. Question

So after doing some research i figured out that having an aftermarket b.o.v on a semi stock evo is not good. Problems with low psi 12-14 max instead of the stock 22psi, stalling, and maybe even more air leaking. I was wondering if theres any BOV out there that would do good without any problems? im a ricer and like the sound, BUT im not going to suffer in hp and problems with my engine for it

Yes, of course, there are several, but they are really Diverter valve to be technical...not BOVs, which vent to atmosphere.

If you did all this research, which it looks like, did you really not see us suggest the proper DV/BOV in almost EVERY ONE OF THOSE THREADS? That would be hard to believe...

HKS is supposed to be "unleakable." i hear the forge is good. and so is the GFB

as for the boost...get a MBC and then turn up your boost and then your boost problem is gone...and it'll taper less =)

Argh, I didn't think people would jump in with poor suggestions.

The two best are:

- JDM MR DV (stock IX DV) - these hold up to 25psi and have perfect drivability at a low price without being flashy.
- Forge RS DV - holds up to 38-40psi with an adjustable knob to set depending on how much boost you run and how stiff you want it to be, but costs more than the JDM MR DV

Do not get the Greddy Type S, do not get the HKS, and by no means get the GFB. No idea why these guys would mention those. Also, telling the guy to just turn up his boost is atrocious - that has nothing to do with the BOV issue. Unbelievable...

that one sucks...ever wonder why so many people try to sell/trade it? i would have to agree that JDM DV IS the best way to go...unless you're going to be boosting a crap load

i have been using the typeS since the DSM days, as long as u recirulate it, i dont see and encounter any problem. Care to explain why its sucks?

i am using the Tial now, can somebody tell me it this is an ok bov or should i switch back to the jdm DV?

i totally agree if u get a HKS, Greddy or whatever and do a VTA setup with the stock MAF is bad due to un meter air.

i cant tell you exactly why since i never cared to bother...hopefully someone else can. i know that whenever that one is mentioned nobody likes it...search around...you'll see what i mean.

JDM DV is the best becuse it is strong and it fully recirculates. i havent heard anyone have problems with it either.

but then again...do you want functionalibity or sound? it all depends on the owner of the car right? each BOV sounds different. as for recirculating a bov...i'd rather go with the JDM DV.

i did see the suggestings but im kinda of an evo newb so the short terms kinda throw me off DV? so evo MR bov is best? but i want some sound when i shift pshhh ....who makes the forge rs dv? im not planing on getting an upgraded turbo..not yet anyway haha....i just plan on getting hks exhuast, hks downpip, hks intake, bov, aem ems for tuning?

The Tial is great if you are using speed density. It is not to be used with the stock MAF and ECU.

Greddy Type S just doesn't perform as well as the others listed. It doesn't matter if it worked on DSMs - it's not as good on the Evo. Many people make the mistake of thinking that good DSM parts are automatically good Evo parts.

DV = diverter valve...it sends the air back into your intake so you dont lose any of the air that your computer already registered.

BOVs that VTA (vent to atmosphere...making the Pshhh sound) release the extra pressure that your computer already compensated for (by adding more gas to even out the air/fuel ratio) into the air. so you are running really rich when your car makes the noise.

the metal JDM DV is located in all IXs...so they have no problem...and i think the VIII mr?

and thats a lot of HKS...i guess you're a fan of them. i'd say get the HKS but i've heard driveability problems with it.

Who makes the FORGE RS DV?

What made you mention that you weren't getting an upgraded turbo yet? I certainly wouldn't expect you to upgrade your turbo when you don't even know what BOV to get. I will not help you make sound when you shift. That's stupid, imo.

Btw, the DP is part of the exhaust, so you don't list it separately from the "exhaust." You need to take a look at my sig before even thinking about buying all those HKS parts and an AEM EMS. I HAVE TO KNOW where you got the idea that those parts were what you need. That would be about $3000-3500 to make about 50whp over stock. Please do not get ANY of those mods unless you are just so rich that you don't care.
