drivetrain shock

just wondering if anyone else has experienced this on a hard launch, or during quick shifting. basically when i shift into second. if i engage the throttle hard and fast, a huge shock ripples through the car? this typically happens when i'm banging up through the gears quickly (on a highway onramp or otherwise), or if i downshift from 2nd to first on a gravel uphill during a road rally. is this normal? any ideas? will this cause permanent damage?

thanks...

Ya, it's quite normal. Banging through gears is never a good idea. That's how you start to tear up your drivetrain.

drivetrain

for more spirited driving, what would you suggest? just shifting more conservatively?

Yes shift more conservatively or you will damage the synchros and slowly start to wear out the gears ...

I thought it was the rear diff clunking, and I guess it seems obvious that shifting quickly over time will cause problems.

The evo gearbox seems pretty strong, to me but I granny shift most of the time.

The only way to go fast in these cars is to bang through the gears. Yup. I like that Sledgehammer-to-the-back feel. :}
