Shift Alignment?

I'm wondering if there is a way to adjust the "alignment" of the shifter or cables on the Evo tranny. This would specifically applt to the 6-speed tranny.

I picked up my MR yesterday, and I've noticed some inconsistencies in the shifting. 1-4 shifts great, but 5-6 are very notchy and somewhat difficult. I know that the car is brand new and I honestly haven't even gotten the transmission warmed up since I'm still in the break in period.

The VW transmissions had a simple way to lock the shifter position and re-align the cables at the tranny to alleviate a similar problem. Is there a similar procedure for the Evo transmission?

My plan is to get the car past break in and see if the shifting gets better with time. But, if it doesn't, I'd like to know if this can be adjusted. Thanks

mine was opposite....1-2 were notchy and 5 and 6 were very smooth....it got better once it was broken in though...maybe i just adjusted to the shifting...you can't really force it into gear ...it kinda hangs up for a second before going into gear.....i don't know wierd....but mine is a lot smoother now...i'd say once i got to about 1000 miles on it it was smoother....maybe a little sooner

I'm hoping thats the case ... adjusting that kind of thing can really be a pain since it has to be so precise. I can definately tell that the side-to-side tension is stiffer going into 5th. If that loosens up a little over time, it will definately help.

It feels like there is excess force trying to pull the shifter back to it's neutral position. My thought is that maybe the central position isn't adjusted perfectly.

I'd give your transmission a few thousand miles before you form any lasting opinions. Mine seemed to settle in after a few grand. It's no S2000 gearbox, but I certainly don't have any significant complaints.

yeah, id wait just a little bit, it should feel better soon, it does have those teflon lined shifter cables. if it's not to your liking take it in to the dealer, or it also could possibly just be the way it works.

in the shifter housing, there are springs that make the shifter return to the neutral position. you wouldnt want to do this on a new car, but worse comes to worse you could open up the center consul (shifter assembly) and try adjusting the springs. that would be something i would be hesitant to do on a new car though
