Just installed my motor mount...

Hey everyone, I just installed my front motor mount. Car feels great. At high RPMs the gears go in so smoothly, especially 2nd gear. There is very little vibration comming from the car, not bad at all. The evo did develop some more interior squeeks and rattles that i never had before though, and it did enhance some of the exterior ones

But my question is, why does the engine feel like it is so much louder? At high RPMs the car sounds so much meaner/louder Don't get me wrong, the sound is very cool, but I never would have expected the engine to change its "tone" after a motor mount.

Hmm my car didn't change in sound after my install, maybe you have a boost leak from your LICP or something...

I noticed the same thing when I installed the MM's, I did the three front, trans, and cam gear side. I said the same thing to my buddy, it made it sound meaner. I would say its normal, dunno why but it just is

Its an effect called resonance. Its the same concept of a guitar, strings alone don't really make that much noise.. however attach them to lightweight wooden frame and suddenly weak sounding strings are nice acoutic guitar..

You car is essentially acting like a resonator with more vibration from the engine the louder it will sound to you.

RoadSpike hit the nail on the head. This is normal. The car turns into a big loudspeaker with solid mounts. Mine did with just the front BR mount.

It will also loosen up bolts on your car, so check often. While changing my clutch yesterday I found one loose tranny to motor bolt, front motor mount through bolt, at least one front subframe mounting bolt, and one dowpipe bolt (this one shocked me), all loose since the fromt motor mount install.

OK, thanks guys. I figured that the sound was normal, but now I know why.

Also, about the bolts being loose, that is kinda scary sounding. Did anyone else experience the same thing? I mean, the car does vibrate more, but I would think it vibrates as much as to loosen bolts

The 2g with a full set of prothanes did the same thing. The vibration didn't get bad until the side mounts were put in, but with the BR mount being so much stiffer I suppose just one can cause similar results. I would just take a look at things while you are under the car for an oil change, etc.
