engine oil

Do you look at the viscosity index value when buying an oil?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscosity_Index

Some VI values:

Castrol SLX 0W30 195
Motul 8100 0W40 187
Mobil 1 0W30 169
Mobil 1 0W40 187
Motul 300V 5W30 162
Motul 300V 5W40 176

I read that the 300V line is a very good racing oil. Is it suitable for street?

Has anybody used german castrol 0W-30 in thier evos? I would like to know more about it since the guys on the bitog oil forums are saying good things about it.

I only use Castrol SLX 0W30 (german).

Notice that it is the only one 0W30 that meets ACEA A3/B3 = high performance oil, it is API SL and has the highest Viscosity index.

The only thing I do not know is if 0W30 is too thin for the Evo engine.

They are not true synthetics, they are blends of dino oil and synth. Works fine in my 98 Ford beater but will not get near my Evo.

weird because the SLX is considered as a longlife oil but considered one of the best oils as thisxguy wrote.
