Good Manual Boost controllers?
Good Manual Boost controllers?
I am interested in hearing from anyone that can share their experiences using different MBC units. I have a cheap knock –off ball and spring MBC that is, well... CRAP... It is not very adjustable at all, it is proving very difficult to slightly alter boost and it is not consistent once set. I guess I got what I paid for… Is this typical when using an MBC and unavoidable? If that is the case I will just go with a Blitz or a Greddy Profec B…
I don’t have any prior experience with MBCs, just EBCs that worked very well for me. I would like to have something that holds boost fairly solidly and is capable of increasing or decreasing boost in +/- ~.5 - 1 PSI increments if at all possible…
If anyone has any comments on the overall adjustability of these different MBCs, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hallman?
Joe P MBC?
Greddy TVVC?
DNA?
TurboXS?
I am mainly looking for feedback on the Hallman or the Joe P MBC as the others seem pricey, a tad too close in price to an EBC. Seems like many of you run these successfully on the EVO.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I have been using an XBC manual boost controller from Extreme Motorsports. It actually came with my M2 stage 3 WRX kit. One of the M2 guys Brett said the XBC was a favorite amongst the DSM crowd but who knows? I do know it is made well with a solid block of milled aluminum and stainless fittings.
While I had it in my WRX it worked flawlessly. I did have to re-adjust slightly for any major temp changes (30-40 degrees), but overall it performed nicely. I could adjust the boost in .5 psi increments with no problems, but I also used Defi Gauges and could check my peak-holds to confirm.
I currently have it in my Syclone, but it will probably find its way into my EVO sooner or later.
Heres a link to ExtremeMotorsports...they actually had the $100 controller on sale for $80 which is a decent deal I think.

The Hallman remote with the light spring and lightweight ceramic check valve would be another one worth looking at.

Hope this helps!

We carry AMS's MBC, which is extremely solid and very easily adjustable.. and only 59.95!
AMS has an awesome reputation ... It's the home of the 10second Galant VR-4!!.. and now they're going at it on the EVO too!! 12.54 @ 112mph!!

I am very happy with the Hallman MBC I have on my 93 Talon and will put that on my EVO. Rock solid through summer and winter. The only other thought would be a "remote" adjustable manual than Buschur has mentioned. It has the rock solid traits of an MBC plus you can adjust it from inside the car. Although I have never needed to adjust the boost on the fly!
