Walbro 255lph Questions

Well I installed a 255lph without the install kit. We throw as much fuel as we could @ peak tq and still was running lean. Decided to use the install kit and found all our fuel that was leaking by the rubber grommet cause the stock piece below the pump allowed it to push out a bit. The stock rubber piece that is below the pump is half as thick as the walbro one. So we found all our fuel after that. More fuel, more boost...Problem solved.

Now Ive noticed a couple things. I dont hear that inital prime that I heard with the stock pump...Is this normal? My starting is kinda random last night it was crank crank start like 2 secs or so.

Does everyone reuse the OEM fuel filter? The walbro one seemed a little more restrictive than the OEM one.

***Well I pulled the pump out to check everything, as I expected everything seemed fine. None the less I took it apart and then put all back together the same way (checked evomoto). Fired it up, crank, then start. Left the walbro fuel filter in, cause seems like every write up I found used it.

Tnat's interesting, I just installed mine without the kit. Now I'm paranoid, not sure if my one is also leaking fuel.

Has anyone else installed the pump without the kit and had problems?

ps. I reused the OEM filter as well.

I don't know why people don't buy the Walbro kit,it dosen't cost that much more than just the pump, weird.

I didn't even know there was a kit until today. Where I got the pump from (local store in Australia) they only sell the pump itself.

Well there are vendors telling you that you dont need the kit. Which is why I didnt purchase it. Point is it was the reason I was running lean @ peak tq.

Does your pump cycle when you turn the ignition to "ON."

I've done a few of these with the stock pieces and there was no issues with leaning out.

What makes the pump cycle? Is there a relay I can test? Mine doesnt cycle...turn key no cycling pump buzz. Guess best bet would check the stock pump to see if it still cycled.

Did they have a wideband o2? Some may not have issues, considering how many people say you dont need the install kit. I on the other needed it.

is there any problem using the walbro filter cause iam using it and yes it looks to be more restrictive then the stock one?????

what im wondering is how old is the car that the swap was done...
after a while rubber can take the shape of the original fuel pump..
meaning compresses/degrades/takes shape...
my Evo has 8k miles so its still pretty new and the pump took a bit of a push to get inplace
I would think a higher mileage pump would have a gasket that form fitted to its original pump
and swapping out a new one wouldnt fit as well...
just my 2 cents
