IX EBC boost problems!

Today my brother and I decided that it was time for some race gas in his EVO IX GSR. Problem is that we couldn't turn the boost up to take advantage of the 110 octane we put in at the track. He has very simple mods on the car:

TBE with highflow cat
drop in filter
ebay o2
ported exhaust mani
Greddy Profec type-S EBC
AMS dynotune

The car makes a desired 93 octane boost of 22-23 psi then tapers down to 19-20 psi by redline. We have read the Greddy EBC instructions many times but still have failed to increase boost levels past 23 psi for race gas. Now we are still able to decrease boost levels with the controller but like I said, no increases could be made passed 23 psi.

Do you think that the dynotune could have something to do with this. When someone does a dynotune on a IX, are they able to set a max boost level for the ECU (23psi in this case). Is the Greddy EBC not able to go higher than that because its in the ECU? Just always asumed that the EBC was supposed to override the ECUs boost settings. Anyone have any insight on this?

Yes, a reflash is needed to raise boost above what it was flashed at.

No, the flash cannot control or limit your boost when you use the EBC. They are unnecessarily difficult to use - an MBC would do this so much more easily for $85.

What Boscoyo said was completely wrong.

The EBC has been flawless till today. Like I said, we are still able to turn boost levels down with the controller but she wouldn't go any higher than 23 psi. We have had no need to go any higher than 23 psi till today.

So, does it when a MBC is used? Just trying to get my facts straight. Future help will be limited to friends and family.

No, haven't tried that yet but it may end up being what we will have to do. Its just unfortunate that when we needed the EBC capabilities the most, it let us down. Maybe we are just doing something wrong.

Whats messed up is that the car did run a tenth of a second quiker and 1 mph faster (best ever run) on the race gas than on 93. Boost was the same 22-23 psi.

The Type-s had a problem with the software in the headunit which allowed a max boost to around 23 psi or so (what you are seeing). Greddy is aware of the problem and will fix it if you send your head unit in to be repaired. Then it will hold all the way up to the 43 psi or whatever it is meant to hold.

I would suggest that you return it to the vendor and tell them that they sold you an older unit with the problem. All newer units from Greddy should already be fixed.
