Fully Built 2.0 or 2.3

If you somehow magically blew your engine. Broken Rod.
Would you rather build your 2.0 or go with a 2.3 stroker fully built.

I know the stroker allows for a quicker spool and more torque.

Give some OPINIONS and FACTS to why you would go 2.0 or 2.3.

I know some would rather the 2.0 with higher revs over a stroker with more torque.

Thanks.

I went with 2.0 because i dont really know how long the 2.3 will last. And i actually like reving higher.. Better for the drag.

I went with a 2.3 simply because i feel above 8,000rpms on a street car isn't very smart.

I wouldn't rev past 8,000 unless i was changing my oil every 1,000 miles.

Also driving on a bigger turbo out of boost is going to be a lot easier and car will make power sooner. A lot goes with revving to 9.5k. A well put together stroker kit is good for 7500 everday and 8k when you need it.

Brian I cant get over you put eagle rods in your car! Should've gone with a I-beam. Also I really dont see why a stroker kit wouldn't last as long as a 2.0 Yes there are added pistonspeeds from the longer stroke but if you arent reving to 7k everytime you shift I don't see how it would wear much more.

Stroke is only increased what from 88-102 so 14mm. Or 15% greater pistonspeeds at the same rpm. so @ 7k rpms the piston speed with the stroker would be roughly the same as 8k on the 2.0. and at 3500 would be equal to 4000.. I don't see this causing much of a longevity(sp) issue. I know of a few dsms with 70k on a 2.3 build.

If you don't plan on fully building your head(big cams, soild lifters, valves, ti-springs and retainers) and a HUGE turbo. IE bigger than a 35r. I would do a 2.3. But its your choice no one else's.

On that note if you want a 2.3 kit Call SlowboyRacing. They hooked me up on mine. PM me if you wan't more info.

2.3L Hands down. There is no replacement for displacement. If you say more turbo...? I say bigger turbo on the bigger motor will do that much better also. :-) 2.3/2.4's hands down.

Yes, but the rpm limit is what hurts you. That's why will see ALL of the fastest EVO's are running built 2.0's. Follow me?

IMO, if you plan on tracking the car a lot (like 3+ times a year) go with a 2.0. It will handle high revs better. If you only track 1-2 times/yr max and love bombing around town between 3-7K rpms--backroads, canyons and on freeway on-ramps--like I do get a 2.3. 7500 rpms gives me plenty of room.

searching is your friend

this question can't be answered without us knowing your intentions...if you want a car that has more power off-boost, won't be revved over 8.5K, and makes driving with a bigger turbo less laggy, then go 2.3

if you want strictly drag purposes, a built 2.0 will give you a broader powerband to fully take advantage of a big turbo. it has also proven to last...the jury is still out on that one in regards to the 2.3....however it will be laggier on the street and the torque won't be as high.

Thanks for all the quick responses.

However i have a pretty good idea of what i want. I plan to go with all the parts in my sig.

I am leaning towards the 2.0. I llike to really drive my car hard and i refuse to build a dyno queen. I am just looking for a reliable horsepower figure that i can have fun with.

Pertaining to lag, its not that bad. There is always the whole lag thing that it sucks but if you ever drive a 600+ hp evo even getting full boost at 5k its great once your in boost as you go through the gears.
I actually like not having full boost at 3k in first gear easier to daily drive.( i know throttle postion/pressure also plays a role)

I plan to go on the drag strip a couple times just because its legal and safer than the street and the same for a couple track events here and there.
In the same respect i do not want to get beat either, everyone always wants to see how fast evo's are and i dont want to disapoint.

You are leaning towards a 2.0 because you want 150+ traps speeds and sub 10 second timeslips right? If not a 2.3 can handle the abuse and will be more enjoyable when not driving 10/10ths.

If you prefer engine longevity and drag racing, go with the 2.0. The 2.3 liter is superior in road racing but may have troubles surviving if it isn't treated right.
