Question Shifter Bushings :: Underhood or Base?

I really want to reduce the notchiness to my shifter (6 speed) by investing in some new bushings. I have two questions...

Which type of bushings offer the most improvement? Underhood or shifter base?

I know that you need different underhood bushing sizes for the 5 and 6 speed, but are the bushings for the shifter base a universal fit, or do they need to be made specifically for the 6 speed?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...

Underhood. Shifter is barely noticeable.

you get the better results with the base bushings, but if your doing them you might as well do the 2 piece underhood also. For the extra 35 bucks or so and the half hour to put them in its worth it.there are a lot of different companys making bushings so its up to you to SEARCH and decide.

you get no results from the base bushings, its the underhood ones that go in the shift cables that make the biggest difference, imho.

i haven't swapped out my base ones to compare, but putting in the underhood ones made a huge difference. the feel is so much better. solid during shifting, and seems smoother as well.

Imo after both the underhood, and shifterbase bushings were installed, you'll still have the "notchiness" . Sure its a better feel, but they are not miracle workers.

Underhood made a big difference. Buschur aluminum bushings were $30, best bang for the buck mod I've bought yet. Less than a tank of 93.

I didn't think there were any underhood or base bushings that worked on the 6spd.

Correct me if I'm wrong..I'd like to know who.

I have brass underhood and polyurethene for under bushings..... if you are going to do these then go with a short throw also.

buschur racing makes aluminum underhoods for the 6-speed and lancershop has some brass underhoods for the 6-speed.

Cool guys, thanks for all of the info so far! Since there are two different types of metal being used for the underhood bushings (brass and hardened aluminum), I guess the big question is which metal would you recommend? Does one have a lower chance of seizing up versus the other?

Do a short Shifter, Base Bushings and the underhood and adjust your clutch
