do you mean for the stroker swap or the entire evo swap either way its good to know

ok but going with an evo 8 motor to an older style or even a new style eclipse the motors dont line up and the evo motor is in a 180 degree spin. a galant i see it being much easyer in. not an eclipse

he said he wants an evo 8 motor in a 91 eclipse.

yes the right way not really wanting to take the chance that head swap just does sound very dependable and yes i know its been done alot but i think ill just stick to the safe side lol i might go for th 2.3 stroker upgrad one day though if every thing works out right

who knows i may just keep my 4g64 after the swap and fully build it into a 2.4 DOHC beast lol it be a slow as i go process if i did do it

Actually his first post says an 01 eclipse.. Which the drivetrain is oriented the same as ours.. The Eclipse from 2000-2005, Mirage 2000-2002, Galant after 2000 with the 4G64 engine (mirage has a 1.5 engine, but is similar) all share quite a bit.. A built 4G64 short block is basically the Eclipse block with the Evo oil squirters, and some builders have been offering this for some time for the Evo..

So it stands that logically you can do the opposite with an Eclipse..

99 and earlier Eclipses are not the same car.. their a different animal..

Once you have the equivalent of the "Evo Engine" you probably want to run the evo ECU.. the harnesses are nearly identical, same with the solenoids and actuators on the engine, if you swapped in the Evo intake manifold, sensors, throttle body, MAF, coils, etc.. It all should plug right in.. Makes sense to use the ECU also.

Yep, I picked up my backup short block for $500 and head for $250 (if I remember)

You'll find most of the engine accessories should bolt right onto the Evo block anyway.. The things that would be different are the timing belt covers and whatnot.. I think most of the existing engine accessories are located at or below head level, and should bolt right back on without any issue. You might have to use an Evo PS pump and a/c compressor though (if the offset or size of the eclipse one) interferes with the turbo, FWIW it shouldn't.
