P0335 & P0340 Codes at the same time

I having issues with my xede. When my car runs off the ecu no codes. I plug the xede in and let the car idle for a little bit and I get both these codes.

What could cause both the crank and cam sensors to fault?

I just saw this problem with an EVO on the stock ECU with a flash and light mods.

Does it cause your car to not want to start sometimes?
