big FMIC conseqneces.

Hi,
Have got this problem after i put in the massive APS R type FMIC.

My ride is a JDM E8MR, mods are intake, boost ctrler, kansai airbox, stock DP, test pipe, HKS hi power catback, HKS hipermax pro and APs all round.

Turbo is stock titanium snail on a MR with a 10.5T hotside.

After putting in the APS fmic..car seems to be slower.
Cant really feel the pull of the car.Boost however does goes to my preset levels.

Is the FMIC realli too big and creating a concave power graph instead of a convex one?

I am doing ECUtek soon, will this solve this "phenomenem"?

Any input appreciated!

Lag? the turbo is too small....APS FMIC's are huge arent they? I think it'll be better when you tune it!

You should finish upgrading your exhaust system with a 3" DP, an Ebay O2 housing, and a HD, adjustable WGA as well. I 'll bet that your WG preload needs to be increased. This'll improve spoolup for you. Once you do all of that, then have your ECU retuned.

^^^^ Yeah, there is a thread started by smokedmustang about the importance of testing the intake tract between the compressor discharge and the TB for leaks, I'll try to find it and post a link.

There fmic seems to be pretty big to me for the factory turbo.

2 problems. First off, that intercooler is gaint and basically unncessary for the stock turbo. It will do a great job cooling but youre going to lose response and spool. A smaller intercooler would have been better, like the Buschur Deluxe or something like that. The race cores are just huge and meant for larger turbos.

Secondly, you probably have a boost leak. It is MANDATORY to do a boost leak test after installing IC pipes, FMIC, etc. When I did mine, I tightened everything incredibly well and made sure everything was where it was. Did a boost test anyway. Found 2 decent sized leaks, I was amazed! I fixed them.... THEN took car out for a drive!

The stock FMIC is excellent for stock turbo, If you are not going to upgrade the turbo you should just leave the stock one.

Id say that applies for the majority of people. However, if youre going to really max out the stocker, an aftermarket will increase power. But, it should one of the last modifications you do.

Check out the pressure loss rating. Should be fine. A larger intercooler will be more efficent because it takes longer to heat up.
You have a boost leak. Replace all clamps with high quality ones. Higher boost levels require quality clamps that work and not just get by.
