It happened:(

Last nite my motor turned into a hand grenade. The block is definately ****ed(pratcially the whole front of the block got busted as the rod pushed the balancer shaft out of the block). I'm pretty sure the head is toast too as the number 3 spark plug is smashed and it looks like the rod is stuck in the head. (tis what I can see through the plug hole..)

Lesson learned, check your vaccuum lines very periodically and even wiretie all of them. The factory untouched line from the intake manifold to the FPR solenoid popped off on me at the top of a 4th gear pull...and that was all she wrote.

I suggest you all go out and check these lines very well and wiretie them. I repeat I have never removed this small hose ever in the life of the car, it just finally decided 30psi was too much for it

Haven't decided whether to buy a whole longblock and rebuild a 2.0 or just build the 2.4 block I have and find a new head.

On that note, anyone have any parts for sale?

yup, 30 psi and alky. The FPR is designed with a base pressure of 42(If i remember correctly its 42...) psi. For every pound of boost you get on more pound of fuel pressure. When the line popped off I was down about 30psi of fuel pressure, so roughly half the fuel from the injectors that it needed. Boom.

I've never seen a 4g let go this bad. LOL.

I had cylinder #3 rod let go on my car. The rod simply snapped and pushed the balance shaft out the front and a softball sized hole in the back. When we pulled the engine I could literally put my arm through the engine.

My rod let go from high mileage (72,000) and stress from power (50trim + meth injection). Bent some valves, sheered the top bolt off the transfer case, and shrapnel took out the radiator.

When the engine blew, I was maybe @ 7lbs as I was on a slight incline and just shifted into 3rd gear and about 45-50mph.

Car had no signs of detonation, pistons were very clean looking as well, and the rod that let go the rod bearing didn't have any noticeable play, it spun very smoothly.

Broke my heart when it happened, but now it's better than ever thanks to AMS

Horrible story, I'm glad it's just the engine that got messed up!

Dang Ben, sorry to hear, and you're right we need to check the vacuum lines properly and zip tie everything.

As a matter of fact this is what I did today.... and did a boost leak too.
