The VNT was first used in the 89 Shelby CSX and the 90 dodge daytona. Both were turbo 2.2L 4 cylinders. They build boost very quick but unfortunately those turbos are too small for a performance setup. The dodge guys rip them off and go with standard t3/t4 hybrids.
You will continue to see VNT/VGT turbochargers in modern diesels and gasoline applications.
