orange peel seems to be pretty normal for today's cars...i would highly reconsider wet sanding unless you want to have your clear coat thinner than it already is...

My friend was telling me you can get your paint teflon coated to add more protection. Do you guys know who does this? He was saying it looks like your car is always waxed.

How do you find time to look at the paint when flinging these Evo's through the twisties? SHouldn't you be focused on the track or course, er ahem road? Maybe a glance at the guages every once and a while, but inspecting the paint??

Thats a very good point. Most cars in Japan are there to serve a limited lifespan, most no more than three years. After that, its off to the junkyard.

What makes you guys say this?
Cars ending up in the junkayrd on some set schedule would explain why all the racing videos coming over from Japan have 15 year old civics, rx7s, and 240zs. Oh wait no it wouldn't.
Delusions and talking out of your **** must be exciting or fun or something...

Are you a little disappointed, or perhaps even upset.
I don't think there are many people who wouldn't be...
The paint on the WRX sucks too. It's really annoying to watch it flake off like it does. My wife's BMW is bulletproof in comparison.
I figure you're probably saying what you said tongue in cheek, but still...
I should add though -- TWO generous coats of carnuba applied now and then will go a very long way to protect your paint. Wax doesn't just shine; it protects!

Look at the paint quality on a CTS, 3-Series, or any Ford truck - they are all superior to the paint job on all of the Japanese cars I have owned.
just my thoughts....

As far as Jap brands go, my wife's new TSX looks to have awesome paint; it is just a few weeks old though so still time will tell......
I have a Nissan Maxima and there was and may still be a class action litigation against Nissan for premature paint chips on the front bumpers of Nissan Maximas.
My 2002 Maxima has "good" paint. I have not experienced any premature chipping or flaking and its pretty smooth everywhere. Alot of it depends on who you drive behind. And a few coats of wax will go along way in protecting it from contaminants.

dunno... my EVO has much nicer paint then my 2G. If you getting chips on the lower panels ... try not driving 70MPH on stone covered roads..., I'm not saying the car can't do it... but your paint will suffer.

As I understand it cars are built for a much shorter lifespan in Japan then they are here (look at the boneyards full of Sylvia, Gloria, & Skyline clips). Thusly they are painted with a shorter lifespan in mind then a comparable American car. Look at the paint quality on a CTS, 3-Series, or any Ford truck - they are all superior to the paint job on all of the Japanese cars I have owned. That said, the last American made car I bought was my 95 Cobra - so the paint job isn't high on my list of things to look at when shopping for cars.

Good thing it's only a theory...because what I just read is the biggest pile of ****. Educated guess of yours? Not very educated if you ask me.
So you say a Ford truck has superior paint over it's Japanese counterparts? And where did you get this idea? Are you a professional painter? If not, STFU! Because you've made yourself look like a complete dumbass who likes to speculate.
I've seen some shoddy a$$ factory paint jobs on some American cars which were built with "longer lifespan" in mind.
Ummm...how about those defective paint work on those mid 90's Neons? Let me not even mention some other American cars that have crappy paint from the factory. Personally, I think pre 99 Mustangs had crappy paint jobs as well...ummm...compared to a E-Class Benz.
Sh1tty paint jobs aren't exclusive to Japanese manufacturers only. It's all dependent on the individual car whether it be foreign or domestic. So stop with your stupid theories...because some feeble minded idiot who reads **** on the internet might take it as gospel.
