spec clutch???????
spec clutch???????
Has anyone used the spec kevlar clutch and what is the clamp load on the pressure plate? If so could i get some input on how it was for racing/daily driving? 2nd Does anybody know where i can buy just a disc for a spec clutch? Any input would be nice thanks
I have seen more Spec clutches fail then any other clutch on the market. I would stick with the quality of a Exedy Twin Disk. Yes these clutches aren't cheap but you have to take into play the quality of this clutch. It has next to stock pedal pressure and a huge amount of clamping force.
The only other clutch I might resort to would possibly be the ACT line but I've seen enough success with the Exedy Twin disk to justify spending the extra money for one.
Good Luck

I've owned a SPEC clutch. never held what it was rated... I told SPEC about it and kept making excusing trying to blame it on me... I told them the clutch worked normal under normal conditions... but when I was it 4th and 5th it would slip at high rpm... and at agressive starts... not even launches... they blamed on bad break in without even bothering to take a look at my clutch. garbage.

my brother just installed one on his new GTI. the car has a 3" turbo back and a chip, with about 220whp and 250tq. so far so good with the clutch. i think its supposed to hold up to like 400ft lbs but i doubt that car will ever see that. but time will tell on this clutch. he went with it because its the only after market clutch and flywheel made for this car right now. so i guess we will see what happens. he does plan on tracking it, but road race not drag.
My friend put one in his bone stock 02 camaro ss. It lasted 2 weeks after a nice ez 600 mile break in. MY neighbor put one in his 300whp honda and after another proper break in it practicaly exploded on his first launch at the track running drag radials up front. Plus i,ve read at least ten horror stories about these clutches over the last year or two.
Pm CBRD and ask him how he feels about spec clutches. I believe they sent him about 5 clutchs and they all had problems and they wound up refunding him his money for the clutch. Just go with a ACT, pm me if you need a price on one.
I suggested a Exedy Twin witch he has for it now.
Exedy FTW!!
i just broke in my ACT with prolight flywheel (MB7-HDSS clutch) and couldnt be happier. Got it from nolimitmotors (Chris) at a great price and 2 day delivery. I ran an exedy twin in my 03 and i,m ten times happier with the ACT as far as stock like driveability and the ability to hold the power i,m making. 350 hp 355 lb ft tq. Stock BR350IX (#005).
Thanks for the replies. I decided to go with a exedy stage 1 clutch, a twin disc is just over kill for bpu's.I have a triple disc that needs rebuilt but its just to much for the power im going to make. Ive seen to many warped pressure plates from act and clutch springs like to come loose to go with them.
i would recommend the act over and exedy stage 1 now...
yes we did have issues with the spec clutch (it was a sponsored clutch also)...
we are using the twin disk in ours, and are happy with it... will it hold up to the 2.3 gt35R?
