Question about HFC

I'm gonna be getting a Helix TBE shortly, but I'm gonna have to get a HFC separately.

I'm having a tough time finding someone with a Helix 3" HFC to go along with the rest of the stuff...

If I can't find a Helix, will an Ultimate Racing 3" work? Everwhere I see the UR HFC it's listed for Evo VIII only (eg. http://evomoto.com/product_info.php?...a56a09e2144619 )

Are all 3" '03+ HFCs compatible with all '06 IX TBEs ?

Thanks, in advance.

[b]Edit: May have answered my own question, this is from this post by Warrtalon
Ok, on all USDM Evos, there are two o2 sensors. On the VIII, there's one in the o2 housing and one in the cat-back. On IXs, there is one in the o2 housing and one in the cat. So, since all exhausts were made for VIIIs, just about all cat-backs have a bung in them already. If you put a cat-back on a IX, then you have to fill that hole with a plug, because you still have to keep your rear o2 sensor in the cat bung. If you get a cat-back and a HFC or test pipe, then you don't care if it has a bung, because you can just extend the rear o2 to the cat-back bung.

If you want something comparable to the Helix, I would get a Random Tech. They are both metallic substrate cats.

Yes, they are interchangeable. You can use an aftermarket 3"HFC on the Evo 8 and the Evo 9 except some variations like the Buschur Racing which uses V bands to engage with the piping.

In my garage as we speak I have: Works 3"HFC, Buschur 3" HFC and UR 3"HFC. Pictures if you want. As far as I am aware, Works was the first vendor t sell true stock fit utilizing OEM flanges however they were indeed the most expensive, I paid $249 for my Works HFC and later I paid $149 for the UR HFC.

I'd agree w/ Rich on Random tech hiflow cat. I have theirs, 3" in/out w/ rotating flanges and a O2 sensor bung. You'll need a bung for your IX exhaust sensor.

BTW, I just tunned and put down 340whp/340lbs. Random Cats flow very nicely...

Oh, and I bought mine used for $100 here. I dunno where to get new. I think they're over $300 to 400. But worth it!

Is the harness to the o2 sensor for the cat. converter long enough to reach an aftermarket catback exhaust?

I suggest highly Random's metal cores also. However, I don't suggest the bolt on one. It's flanges are not canted like the OE cat, and can cause fitment issues. Some combinations they do fit well with though. I'd suggest getting their core, and some flanges and having one made to fit.

Also, SS RX7 r2 has a line on some 100 cell (the best for performance) metal cat cores. Tell him Zeus sent you!

no. I believe the o2 bung on most catback's midpipe is too far down for our IX sensor to reach. that's why you need a aftermarket cat or testpipe w/ a bung.

in my case, I just flipped the midpipe 180 degrees since my midpipe is completely straight. it's Invidia N1. i placed my stock sensor into it and my wideband sensor into the aftermarket cat, Random hiflow. GL

Personally i went with the UR 3" high flow cat. It looks like the factory cat and has an o2 bung for the 2nd sensor. Fitment isn't bad also. i combined it with a 3" perrin dp and a turbo-xs catback...

No lights no nothing. just like stock...

Haven't finished the car yet and made 328 untill now, with moderate boost due to stock fuel pump. Friday i am installing the fuel pump, increase the boost a little bit and dyno again...

value-to-performance ratio for the UR cat is HIGH!!!! very pleased...
