HKS Filter Question

oki kno lots will say dont put it on your car but im going to and then get it tuned My ? is would getting a HKS filter w/ MAF adaptor show similar gains to getting the entire RS intake setup? A local place has the HKS filter w/MAF adaptor in stock and just thought id ask before going and picking it up....

I would suggest a different filter than the HKS. If you getting a tune - get a cone filter only, if you want a cone filter. Its cheaper and would work better (filter better, last longer, doesnt need to be replaced all time...) unlike the HKS intake. You dont really need the MAF to turbo inlet pipe.

I've had the HKS Filter on my 89 Turbo Supra for 40-50K miles but I never had any MAF problems. Don't you think that it's kind of weird, I mean one would think that the less restrictive the filter is, the more HP it would make. HKS in the the test lets in the most dirt so that means that it's the least restrictive and yet it makes the least HP also. Sorry that was a little off topic.

If you get the RS kit, the turbo inlet pipe makes the blowoff valve sound louder. Well that's what I've experinced. But for you as you don't care about the inlet pipe, I would get the Apexi since you can get the aluminum intake box.

The recent RS kit, as far as I am aware has a piece where the MAF sits and basically has the same diameter as the stock pipe where the MAF sits so you don't have to calibrate the MAF values. However, if you're getting it tuned anyway, I would have thought it doesn't really matter since this can be calibrated when tuning (?).

FWIW, the filter really does filter out very, very little. You might as well run open.

What is there to try out? Sucking more dirt/dust into your motor?

As you wish, its your car.

the RS intake is a great intake, but buy the Outerwears filter cover for it to filter out the rest of the stuff the intake doesn't get. I use to get small dust particles in my intake tube and with the Outerwears filter cover I don't get them anymore.
