All the small things

I am going to be getting Cobb's accessport in a few weeks and then have a custom map made for it, but I would like to make any small changes now that way I wont need to retune for them later. I currently have a HKS donw pipe and ti/carbon exhaust with a works high flow cat and a hks drop in filter. I am planning on doing a licp(recomendations accepted) but was wondering what else I should do at the same time. Would I benafit from a complete intake over just the drop in filter? Would a samco industion hose make any difference, and can anything be gained from cam gears on stock cams? I would like to do all the small things now that way I can get the best tune possible cause I dont want to have to pay to get it tuned again untill I get cams. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

if your thinking of getting cam gears you might as well go with cams, if you go with anything cam might as well go with a kevlar timing belt also, if your going drop in filter you should look into a pod type instead gain more hp by taking the snorkel off and going with a pod type.

if your not getting an intercoolr itself you should cause you got to retune after that also as far as icp any works silicone based is good

on the cams thing anyway if you do anything with cams look into the valve springs i dont know much on this but heard lots of talk about them when you change cams

The engine managment will be handled by the cobb accessport, and I dont plan to do a intercooler till/if I do a turbo upgrade. I am extreamly new to the evo (owned it for 6 days now) so I just wanted to know if there is any small things I have over looked before I get it tunned. Since I already have a hks drop in should I just off it and get a complete intake, and would the samco induction hose do anything other then be more durable, and what LICP?

i have ams icp they work great for mine but if your going to remain stock intercooler dont really worry about that then. you should talk to your dealer also and see what will and wont void a warrenty i think ems will void it not sure though. i would also look into getting a turbo outlet why not complete entire exhuast? i would do complete intake and exhuast get the ems if not of these will void warrenty and then get tuned until you decide to go further.

I dont have a warrenty so that dont matter. I already have full exhaust and down pipe, so what intake?

6 days no warrenty is the car new? ok as far as what intake system to go with on mine i got the Injet set up look anf works good is it the best who knows. I would look into getting turbo timer, boost controller, an air fuel gauge would be nie but dont think you need one just yet also look into a blow off vavle

the car is an 03 he bought it used ...ok ^ what benefit would any of what you recomended give? as far as the intake goes it will end up getting you in more trouble than its worth with the cops thats the first thing they will look for... if anything build a custom one that mounts in the fender well or whereever the cold air is drwn from and just make a pipe that goes through the box where the stock filter would normally sti so that everything looked stock. yes the turbo timer would give a little safety, but the boost controller is not needed as the cobb maps will control boost, he has a af gauge that doesnt work for !@#$ and he has a bov in the box but then again what benefits will that produce with just stage 2?

wow i dont know if your being snotty there or not haha humm! anyways.
blow off valve is always good to go with, my boost controller is set up like that but i still have a gauge to let me know what psi i am running in case things get hairy and goes wrong somewhere i can tell if i am over boosting and know exactly what psi it went to always an added safety measure.

ALL IN ALL if your going to do anything with something go all the way ie full exhuast and full intake or just cat back and intake pod.

if you dont like my advice then dont take it but this is my second car thats been modded my first car a 2000 nissan silvia i literally spent months preping and looking up specs talking to people before i even change the air box.

Oh and by the way changing the intake to make it look stock why? the exhuast will get you in more trouble so do it right

you dont live where we live the first things cop look for is an intake so they can write u a smog ref ticket. let start by asking if you know what an accessport will do??? not trying to be snotty its just that most of this stuff you are mentioning isnt needed before the tune cause it wont make a big enough difference if added after the tune to need a retune or make any significant gains ... do you really think ur bov helps its just another thing to attract the attention of the police.

Well a BOV is really up to opinion evo's are rerouted stock which gives you boost at request unlike the ones that blow off in atmosphere which makes the turbo need to spool back up since that pressure os gone. where do you live? the injen short ram cant be seen from the front of the car. almost sounds like your in australia

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--------------- california... ive heard of evos getting pulled over beore just because the cop thought the brakes werent legal... tint and no front plate will also get you pulled over and then exhaust is resonable doubt to have them pop youre hood and write you a smog ref ticket for an intake.

I am going to be getting the accessport which I believe on the new one monitors your A/F and boost so the gauges wont be needed. I am not overly worried about a ref ticket as I have all the stock parts and with the AP the map can be set back to stock. Not to mention that I am currently going to school to get into law enforcement and that in its self helps a little as long as your not acting like a complete a$$ to get pulled over.
