I had a similiar issue to yours a while back. My little hold down tabs had just popped off and left the snorkle free to move. I did what Warrtalon suggested and removed some tabs from the trunk liner and did a quick fix. It seems that there is a bit of movement from the air cleaner assembly that causes the snorkle to shift a lot and those little tabs break off. I went to my local PepBoys and found some nice black Nylon Screw Rivets that fit perfectly on the Evo. The part number is 47970 and they are 1/4 in diameter and they are made by "Rivet-Tite". They have a nice phillip head nylon screw that secures the snorkle much better than the OEM tabs. They also look good to.

OMG, i cant believe how stupid this was, i mean i knew it would be dumb but not this dumb. I feel so dumb, lol. Its funny to cuz it would have taken me a week to figure it out too. I did a spring and o2 housing install the night before last and one of the little screws holding down the snorkel scoop thing dissapeared so i took the one off my car for his car. And i had already been missing one because i lost one of mine too when I did my MBC install. I cant believe it was that stupid, thank you for pointing that out to me!!!

Dude, why didnt you just call me? I could have saved you HOURS of time..

Its the first thing I check now that I've diagnosed this several times..

Don't be embarassed by stuff like that. I have been working on cars my whole life, and sometimes we get in the mode that the problem is more complicated than it is. Besides, we all knew nothing about cars at one time, but we all learned as we went. Nobody was born with this knowledge, we all had to learn it sometime!

Happened to me today with my other car.. I was convinced I had a bad MAF or TPS sensor, misfiring and all sorts of problems.. Turned out it was a bad plug wire.. Got myself all worked up over a simple fix.

Happens to everyone...

Sometimes the biggest problems are the littlest things. Good job.
