Something New

I just sold my mr and bought a bone stock evo 8. all it has is a k&n filter. I wanted to start with the downpipe so i can buy my catback exhaust. One of my questions are is do i really need a test pipe. when i lifted the car so i could do my oil change and check why the stock muffler had a hole in it. it was my o2 sensor that wasnt there but its weird cause my check engine light is not on. or should i first put electronics such as boost gauge, boost controler, fuel pump, etc.

thanks for the input

u should buy the catback 1st and then downpipe. u dont need a testpipe but u would make more power out off the testpipe or u can just buy a highflow cat if u dont want ur car to be to loud. as for the cel w/ no o2 sensor probably u have the perrin simulator installed or something

ok ill do the exhaust first. also wouldnt it be cheaper to buy the muffler and take it to a muffler shop to get the pipe made to look like a catback cause im gonna go with the apexn1 muffler and just make my own cause apex wants like 700 bucks and the muffler itself costs 200 and the piping no more than 300 so saves me 200 bucks. so after the exhaust, testpipe, and downpipe what should i do next?

No dont buy a tip and weld it on. There are so many catbacks for 400-500 bucks. If you do weld it on you one would be the laugh stock of many and it would not gain you any performance if not down grade your catback.

If the problem is cash flow then this is what you do save up your money and when your ready to buy everything you want to buy then get it done. Dont go the cheap route becasue it will end up costing you more at the end.

Its ok not the best for the buck but it will do its job the best bank for the buck is helix catback it has the best deep tone ive heard. That HKS will not be as deep as the helix becasue it has that tone muffer its the part of the catback where it goes from 3in to 4 or 3.5 then come back down to 3in thats to keep the sound down to keep you somewhat legal

- That's not a good sign if it was an extremely low price
- Also, there is no hole in any Evo muffler for an o2
- It's not the exhaust that makes a car sound like a rice burner - the engine does that
- All exhausts sound deep on an Evo, so purchasing an HKS cat-back just to get a deep sound makes no sense - you spent more than necessary for no reason
- Best bang for the buck would have been a full Megan TBE for $550, only $70 more than your cat-back

no i want the exhaust to get the most power out of it. when i first got the car i lifted it and the o2 sensor that goes in the cat wasnt there and my check engine light was not on. so like u said on every evo exhaust there is no hole for the o2 sensor i really dont have to worry about that cause it doesnt have the o2 sensor on it now. so you think i should go with the megan exhaust huh? why?

You might want to step back and find the 02 sensor first and see what else has been done to the car before buying an exhaust. I mean, is the 02 sensor gone? unplugged, or just not in the exhaust? It sounds like it's been modded and put back to a somewhat stock condition. Not always a good sign on a used car. I'd give it a good look, do a leak down test, etc. and verify the car is ready for a catback. You may need to save that money for a bigger issue that could be lurking.
