Questions - aftermarket headers on evo - what about the heat ????? help!
Just installed an aftermarket exhuast header on my evo VIII - now I have some much increased heat comming out of the black vent in my hood and it seems like the hood is getting too hot for comfort - I am wondering if any one has some headers on thier EVO - viii or previous version - and if they have the same heat issues - is it SAFE for my paint?? I am thinking to get the headers coated or wrapped of maybe try and make a heat shield
Correct me if I'm wrong but why do you refer to your exhaust manifold as header? Header is for a normally aspirated vehicle while a turbocharged vehicle has an exhaust manifold. Just curious.

Get it coated... Swain Tech, Jet Hot, pick your poison. I'd go with nothing less than the 2000 degree coatings.
So, what header you running? Come on, give up the goods!

There are several companies that provide a coating service.. Jet-Hot was one of the earliest, and it actually does the coating on some jet engine parts for the military. Also, another suggestion is to use some Heat-wrap.. Thermotec (I think) makes a header heat wrap.. I don't recommend it for mild steel headers, but it should be OK for street use on stainless. One word of warning about the header wrap.. its UGLY to look at.. But it will keep the heat in the header..
And thanks for the info about this header, I'm ordering this header along with the Bushur 3" exhaust, downpipe, and test pipe.. I'm doing a bit of an experiment.. I'm putting in the exhaust before I attempt to modify the boost or fuel settings to see what restriction exists in the exhaust. (truthfully I have all the other toys, but I am waiting on the remaining parts for my custom wiring harness extension)

what kinda of manifold is it? stainless steel? is it an hks or jic one or a custom one? external wastegate? stock location? what turbo's will it bolt up to, what turbo are you running now? pictures? lol. i would really like to see the manifold, thats one of the first custom parts im gonna get when i get started on project 25G evo. you also may just be over worried and actually paying attention to the heat coming from the vent now. cuz mad heat comes from the vent stock already, enough to make me kinda wory bout the paint.
