weird rain issue anyone have this happen?

well today my wife came home saying her car breaks up under boost, so i drove it and it breaks up very bad. so 1st thing i do is check the plugs. cylinder one was full of water not inside the head but on the top part to the point the plug was submreged. i took my shop vac and vacumed the water out and was able to get the plug out with out water going into the head . so i checked 234 and they were fine no water. my question is how the hell did water get in there. so i replaced the plugs with oem plugs, take the car on a test spin and it still breaks up.... anyone have this happened before or have any ideas.

My question is which car is hers? The Evo or the STI?

I would venture to say it is coming in through the hood vent.

Did you read what he wrote? It was full of water and probably shorting the plug out. Spray it down with some silicone or WD-40.

I have never had that much water get into my engine bay. Did she follow something through a big puddle and it splash up and into the hood vent or something? Are you running the factory plug wires? It would seem really hard for water to get down in there with the stock wires sealing it off the way they do.

Who knows for sure. Maybe through the intake somehow? I had a friend with a Jetta 1.8t. He had cold air intake that had the filter positioned pretty low in front of the wheel. He drove through a really deep puddle sucked up some water.

ok so i sprayed some wd40 on the inside of the wire got the connection cleaned out, went for a ride after 3 mins of trying to get into boost, the break up became less and less, after 20 mins the car is going into boost again and not breaking up. i assume something was still a little wet and after a nice ride it evaporated.

I just thought that it was weird that you immediately went to an overboost issue when he led us to believe the car runs fine normally and only started breaking up after it got wet.

Now your problem isn't fixed, as a mechanic I have learned (the hard way) things don't break themselves (usualy). I am assuming you mean the water was above the plug in the spark plug access tube, where the spark plug wire boot goes. So the way the water must have got in there is from the top of the spark plug boot. Make sure They are sealed very well against the valve cover. I see this happen alot.
